So let me see if I understand this. Did someone criticize the reporting of these acts? I'm going to guess yes.
Ok, forget, for a moment, the Taliban and their warped sense of religious fervor. Those guys are the sum of an end product - thousands of years of religious fanaticism brought to a fever pitch by circumstances surrounding their daily existence. These guys devoutly believe they are right(Hmmmm, no I won't go there).
The question is: Is it news?
These vile acts have been going on for centuries.
By our understanding, in today's times, they are 'Old Testament' barbaric to say the least.
But because the media (using mainstream as an adjective is somewhat redudant in recent times because of the advent of the internet; it is more appropriate to say corporate media), the corporate media, chooses to "report" these acts to elicit a particular reaction from it's viewers it is considered news.
There was a time when this was not so. We, North Americans, were completely oblivious to the goings on in 'Taliban' country; up until about 10 years ago. Besides, humans have been annihilating those who don't believe as 'we' do since time began. To them, we are the 'infidels' but they don't have the market cornered when it comes to religious destruction & persecution.
So as a group, us North Americans, don't believe as 'they' do. So the long answer is: Yes, on principle alone. And becuase of our violent past.
For me though, as I am a-religious, the short answer would be: No.

No, it's religious bigotry to say that a religious community center can't be built in this country (where freedom of religion is guaranteed) based on the actions of those in another country. Should Jews in this country not be allowed to build synagogues because of the actions of Israel? Of course not. And just because some wingnuts in Afghanistan are cruel and evil people does not mean that people who practice Islam in this country should be denied the right to build a place where they can converge.
