I just listened to my downloaded version of the taped show. Did I miss something? Or did I download the wrong thing? The guy mentions wanting to talk about Firefly but all I heard were people calling in about local stuff.

Can someone please post the archived show that I listened to last night? I may have downloaded the wrong one. Yet, he does mention Firefly in the tape I heard.

I enjoy hearing anyone talk about Firefly; however, did anyone else grow more and more annoyed everytime he said,

"They immediately like it, but they don't know WHY they like it." and "I'm going to explain to them why it appeals to them." And every time he said that, he reiterated that it was because of the overwhelming Libertarian message.

Sorry fella, I know why I like it. I don't need to be held by the hand and have my emotions, likes and dislikes explained to me by someone who feels he knows me more than I know me.

I enjoyed the conversation, but his attitude of having to 'splain things to the little children began to grate on my nerves.

Actually, it would have been more effective if this alleged fan would have REMEMBERED THE RUTTIN LINE !!!!

That's the other thing that bugged me about these guys. They couldn't gorram remember Zoe's name? They loved to toss out quotes, only they'd get them wrong.

Shesh! Another example of how if you're going to quote something, get the quote right. Make notes before getting on the air and vocalizing.

Well, here's what I wrote in a /. post when someone asked what's so good about the show:

Right on! I'm listening to the dl radio show right now, and the overabundance of oversimplification is more irritating by the minute. Also, if they purported to have watched these episodes several times, then how could they have forgotten character names? After watching "The Train Job" the first time when it aired, I remembered all nine character names after the fact. Hell, if you're going to do a radio show, wouldn't it have been prudent to rewatch the episodes for research purposes?

It's great that there was airplay about "Firefly", and it was great that FFFn got all the plugs, but I think they could've been a little more polished and a little less annoying about it.

They can have my "Firefly" DVDs when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers....

It was all in good fun and I'm glad to see Firefly getting any kind of positive publicity. I do generally steer clear of those kinds of talk shows as a matter of personal preference and it was a little annoying that he seemed to be trying to pitch Firefly as political propaganda.

Funny thing is, I've been a libertarian since I started thinking seriously about politics. It's just that Firefly is much much more than that. Firefly is about people trying to find a way in a 'verse that doesn't seem to want them in it. Its about coming to terms with loss and defeat and trying to hang on to what's left even when it seems that 'none of it means a damn thing'.

...and, yes, its about people struggling to be free, but to see Firefly as an anthem to libertarian ideology really misses the point in my opinion.
