This is great! It is fantastic to see the show, and now the movie, getting some air time on the radio.

I will tune into tonight @ 8pm EST to check out the discussion.

"May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one."

Good stories can always be applicable to anyone's political agenda. That is the nature of political agendas--they are opportunistic. And that is the nature of good stories as well--they have a depth and complexity that lend themselves well to diverse political perspectives.

I am sure someone has found liberal, conservative, and libertarian messages in all our classics, such as To Kill a Mockingbird or Lord of the Rings or The Matrix. If you don't like someone's political interpretation, you can always counter it with your own, or counter it with the interpretation that the world was too rich and complex to fix into any one political mold. That is the beauty of film and TV critique and free speech.

I see no harm in a libertarian radio station interviewing libertarian fans on why they like Firefly! Maybe other fans should call in and tell Ernest that Democratic and Republican fans like it too! :)

I'm afraid we may just have to accept a political lean in this discussion. Still, Ernie decided to use his pull to shift some attention towards Firefly, which I think is admirable. As for the discussion, I'll just cross my fingers and hope for a good one. Maybe it'll spark discussion here. We could get him to link to FFFn.

Hey, if Firefly becomes a source of political debate, that's just more publicity.

Yeah, maybe we can get it into some of the Kerry and Bush Campaign ads ("WE'RE the big damn heroes!"..."No, WE're much shinier!!!"..."He'll raise taxes, gorrammit!"..."He's a ruttin' radical back-birth!!!")

Good point, but I'd rather folks have seen the show FIRST then talk about any political implications than the other way around. I can't say what all Joss et all were hoping to do but make a damn good show. And that is exactly what it is. It's a kick ass story w/ really cool characters. I guess what gets me more than a tad skittish about this is that, while I do consider myself a Libertarian, above all, I really just dig the show. That so few folks have seen this ( virtually none of my friends caught it, even a couple of Buffy/Angel disciples ) some might get a distorted view of Firefly w/out ever seeing it. Remember the idiot who tried to label Firefly subliminally 'racist' by comparing the Alliance and the Independents to the North/South Civil War saga?

Ahh screw it ..there's no such thing as bad publicity...my mind is made up.. keep her flyin'!!

Holy flirking schnit!

To be realistic, the only people that probably will listen to this show are:
1. libertarians who haven't seen the show and will become interested, and
2. Firefly fans who want to hear anything to do with Firefly.
3. libertarian firefly fans who will enjoy the show on both counts.

Even though it is a valid concern, it is unlikely the danger of misrepresenting Firefly with Libertarian tangents will do any significant harm in this case.
