"I'll go back and give Firefly the seven seasons Star Trek TNG had (but then that show would have ended at episode 14 like Firefly did) if you want me to."
What do you say to that?

Picard might be my favorite of the Trek captains. Hell, really, they're all my favorite of the Trek characters, but I've spent much more seat time watching Firefly than TNG. So hell yes.

Your way of thinking is that of Lex Luthor. Before you sink California into the ocean by causing a catastrophic earthquake from a missle, I will give you my answer.
7 seasons of FIREFLY!! There are enough other Trek series to keep me satisfied...I guess.

Actually, that sounds like the sort of thing Q would do.
Of course, if TNG had died after 13 episodes, we'd never have gotten DS9 (7 years), Voyager (7 years), Enterprise (4 years), or most of the TOS movies. Not to mention all the people whose careers got started because of TNG-era Trek --including RDM, so erasing TNG might also erase Battlestar Galactica (4 years).
That's. . . a lot to trade for just seven seasons. And you know that Q's little Mirror 'Verse would have had Firefly dragged out by the networks long after Joss finished his story, resulting in our beloved work of art becoming a glitzy, underfunded ghost of what it once was. Probably with Joss and many of the original cast "released" and replaced by Whoever's Hot Now.

Same goes with the original Star Trek. Just to have three seasons of Firefly...Star Trek no longer holds value.

TNG or Firefly?
Bring on the next Firefly season..... 12.

God, Hell. If the guy with the horns and tail offered me that one, with time in the hot seat for each season of Firefly, I'd ask for the pen and pot of blood and asbestos parchment to sign on.

I never was much of a Star Trek fan so hells yeah and think if there would have been all kinds of spin offs of Firefly like Star Trek!!!! Oh I just got excited but it will never happen :(

My boyfriend and I actually sat on my couch all day yesterday and watched every episode of Firefly!!!

Well, my first thought to something like that would be, Why would God do anything I want? What motive could He possibly have for a thing like that?
Barring that, though, I would say Do Voyager instead of TNG and it's a deal.

Heh, yea my first response would be to assume I'd gone around the bend. After that, I'd probably be horribly indignant, risking hellfire to ask "seriously?...w/ all that's going on in the world, oh dear and fluffy Lord, this is what you want my opinion on?". My final answer would be "no, I love Firefly and would very-much like to see more but the little we had of the verse is all the more precious for what it was and there is always hope for more (in whatever capacity) in the future". Let the chips fall where they may, and hold, hold 'till the tide changes.
May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I'd reply to God "How soon can you get Firefly back on the air".
Sure, I enjoyed STNG, but I would say that to me personally the episodes don't inspire to watch them again, and again, as I do Firefly.
Besides, as OppyH pointed out, there are plenty of other ST shows out there to fill the void.

Assuming the influence would not extend beyond Star Trek, I wouldn't hesitate the choose Firefly.
Personally, I couldn't care less about Star Trek (DS9 is the only one worth even watching, in my opinion) but it had a pretty big impact on the face of sci fi as a whole.
Also, getting rid of Trek would give all those Trekkies their lives back! :P

TNG was a formative element in my adolecence (for better or worse), and without it, we wouldn't have DS9, my favorite Trek.... So, no.

I've got a better question for you Chris. More Firefly or Dark Angel, which would you choose? In keeping with your original premise the other would have never seen the light of day.

I think Jayne's alltogether lack of godlike powers would put him at a disadvantage there...

I would agree. Easy trade. I liked Next Gen, but it was flat, unimaginative, and had a total dirth of characters. I hate dollhouse enough to worry what firefly might have become, and it would have deleted Cameron, so, hmm. Still, there's a lot about stng I truly dislike. I'd like to spread my seasons out. Lexx, Farscape, Firefly, maybe some others.

If there was a God it wouldn't have been canceled in the first place.
But lets say there is a God and he came up with that deal...
My response would be;

If Having to give up STNG to have more Firefly I would gladly give them up. I'd also consider ending up in hell, because more Firefly would be Heaven!!
Not that I want to end up in Hell.

Given that, a short while ago, you were agonizing over how to explain the moral ambiguity of Firefly to your son, while Trek is about as wholesome, moralistic and squeaky-clean* as you can get, the first thing I'd do is ask "God" for some ID...
I mean, they say that the Devil has all the best tunes: I give you "The Ballad of Serenity Valley" vs. "Faith of the Heart" (or the vocal version of TOS theme, for that matter)...
(*apart from DS9... oh, and that scene in Enterprise with the decontamination gel...)

What do you say to that?
My convo with the old Man would probably go like this:
ME: "Sure, Big Guy, go ahead! What do I care? I've already seen everything in the Star Trek franchise. It's only the poor saps that haven't that are affected."
GOD: "Ah, but there's the rub: not ever having been aired, you would no longer have the memories thereof, either."
ME: "Then I won't miss it, either, now will I? Seven seasons of nothing... carry the nothing... So, I'll just have several more shiny seasons of Firefly for free! Show me the dotted line!"
