Most liberals agree with you. They want Rush dead...or if not dead, silenced. After all, liberalism is all about killing or silencing those who disagree with you.

Absolutely true ! Way to call the hate filled , evil and cowardly Left for who they really are.
Be it Cuba, the old Soviet Union, China..... anyewhere the Left is in power, they wish to silence ( unFAIRNESS DOCTRINE ) or murder the voices of dissent and Freedom.

Yup, Rush IS the defacto leader of the Republican party. What he says is how they go. And that's going to work out FANTASTICALLY for the liberals over the next few years. Republicans will have no voice but Rush, there will be no Republican who can rise above Rush's caterwauling to try to actually DO anything, and the left will go about the business of rebuilding the country in our image.
Thanks for helping us out, Rush! You ROCK!

I see you got your marching orders from the Obama campaign. Obama's effort to make Rush the face of the Republican party is pretty obvious, I just wish he'd take a short break from the campaign trail and be President for a couple of years before starting his 2012 campaign.
All I have to say about Rush is that he is loving every minute of the attention Obama and the Dems give him. The best thing that ever happened to G. Gordon Liddy is when Clinton attacked him personally. If Obama's intention is to boost Rush's ratings, I think he will be successful. The problem is that if people actually listen to what Rush says in proper context they will see that he is very smart and quite reasonable. It will be harder to take him out of context and distort his words if people are listening for themselves instead of taking the liberal media reports at face value like you and Chris do.

Ayep, just like certain fanatics over in the middle east do.
In all honesty the best way to crush a dangerous attention whore is to laugh them off and dismiss them - otherwise you empower them by providing them handy excuses and justifications for anything they do, shit folks, Castro played on that for YEARS to stay in power, Chavez used it to climb there, and despite raking the GOP over the coals for it, here you are committing the same act of stupidity.
Every time you flame the loudmouth twit, you're just empowering him and feeding that whole persecution complex they use to justify shit so morally reprehensible that no one should support it - and that's a bi-partisan trick cause that bitch Pelosi plays the same game.
So consider yourselfs all bonked in the head with a nerf mallet, cause by now ya should damn well know better.
The best counterattack against twits like this is simply to neither feed their need for attention, compounded by never taking them seriously.

So Michael Steel, the alleged chariman of the GOP, DIDN'T call Rush to apologize to him for rightly calling Rush's speech "ugly" and "incendiary"? Oh, yeah - he DID call Rush to apologize.
See, when the SUPPOSED leaders of your party are calling and apologizing to Rush, when they take their talking points from Rush, when they march in lockstep with what Rush tells them to do, when Rush is the keynote speaker at the CPAC convention, then yes, Rush IS the defacto (and de fatso) leader of the party.

That could also be taken as an example of political pandering to the public. Republicans wouldn't want to piss off Rush's listeners, so...
I mean, both sides do it. A Democrat disagrees with a popular figure on the left, like Jesse Jackson, you can bet they publically capitulate and apologize, no matter what the issue is. If they don't, they come off as racist or sexist.

Anybody recall the days, circa millenium, when all the blowhard liberals were saying Rush was out of business, now that Bush was elected, he would have no audience, no subjexct matter, no relevance, blah blah blah? Somehow they seem to currently think his appeal/pertinence has not diminished - and also, maybe because they are afraid his dominion will greatly expand (the correlary of what they thought in 2000), they seem to think he'll have even greater impact.

Any anger or disappointment I have with conservatives/republicans is mostly frustration because I want them to be strong. Since I have zero party allegiance I want to have a choice between 2 good candidates/approaches.
Instead, they keep coming up with the same tired, divisive bs. Rush is the past, he represents an attitude that was proven to fail. The people that aren't republicans - the ones that voted for anybody but the reps - look at him and are mystified that he can be taken seriously. He's bad for you guys, and the fact that reps can't even see that further mystifies and alienates the voters you need. I'm disappointed you reps can't come up with something/someone better.

As do I. And that is entirely Obama's intention - to boost Rush's ratings, but put Rush front and center as THE overblown, bloated face of the overblown, bloated GOP. Rush and the conservatives have made it abundantly clear that Rush is the head of the party, not Michael Steele. Obama intends to hold them to that.

What IS the deal with the Fairness Doctrine? I haven't heard a single "liberal" mention it, except for Ed Schultz, who wholeheartedly opposes it. Oh, and I heard Obama mention it once, in the sentence, "I don't think we're going to need that."
So what's with the Conservatives' obsession with the Fairness Doctrine? Is this just another bogeyman their holding up, another strawman to deflect things to, something to scare their children with?
As I understand it, the Fairness Doctrine would demand that stations give equal time to conservative AND liberal viewpoints. Given that the Conservitaves are absolutely sure that there's a strong "liberal media bias" in 99% of the media, wouldn't this be a GOOD THING for them? Isn't this something that the conservatives would want? Something they'd be fighting for? And shouldn't the "liberal media elite" be dead-set against it, instead of - as the conservatives would have you believe - fighting to reinstate it?
I find it an interesting issue - something that no one is even talking about has the right wing scared shitless; apparently fairness is the new terrorism. And something they SHOULD want (a balance in the "liberal media") is what they vehemently oppose.
Odd, that.

You forgot to argue your case that the Fairness Doctrine was about silencing people you disagree with, in reality it was the American Right-wings removal of the fairness doctrine which was about that.
As for the other thing, Nancy Pelosi is analogous to Rush Limbaugh? I thought Rush had nothing to do with the GOP, I'm getting mixed messages here. I think you'll find that this thread is a direct response to several that wanted Keith Olberman dead, one was quite explicit about him and immolation, who I would have thought would be the "American Left" equivalent to Rush "Far-Right" Limbaugh. I don't see why you'd require links to any of these, they're quite prominently displayed on the left hand side of the screen. Oh yes. The problem is, Far right voices of ill-reason, propaganda merchants like "unfair and unbalanced" Fox'News' and Rush Limbaugh would fall foul of it. The problem is, that despite the US media having an overall right leaning slant, rather than left, the American Right has run an inordinately successful propaganda campaign where they've managed to convince most of the US that the media is against them and they're poor set apone victims. Of course, now the US media can't say a bad word against any of the American right without it being deflected by the whine "Liberal media", while any criticism of the Left is enhanced with the equally idiotic "even the liberal media...".
It's a powerful rhetorical tool. One that the Fairness Doctrine would harm, by bringing fairness and balance back to the US media, something the American Right is ideologically opposed too.

Wow, two (2) whole outlets for Conservative views...oh my God! Compare that to the Liberal Media Jihad of:
NBC
ABC
CBS
PBS
MSNBC
CNN
Air America
Every major newspaper in America
Those are your major media outlets, and they're all kool-aid liberals top to bottom. I'd like to see Conservative counterparts on ALL of them under Senator Leahy's Fairness Doctrine. If they agree to that, then Hannity & Rush can have a Liberal voice on their shows. Sounds Fair to me.

Actually, most of those have a fairly good right wing slant. A few of them may be slightly less right than the Republican party, but that describes most of the planet, so whatever.
Most of them are right of the Democrats, who are a right of centre party. Saying there's a liberal bias to the media, when there ain't even a liberal biased political party in US mainstream politics, is just plain funny.

And since when are the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post liberal? Or aren't they "major" enough for ya?

But what the fuck did she know?
(I kid! I kid!)
Ummmmm... something to say in defense of Nancy Pelosi... dammit, man - that's going to be tough. I guess, if pushed, I'd say that I admire her ability to tell her right hand from her left, sometimes in as little as two tries. That puts her ahead of Bush in the smarts department, right there!

[irony] Yes, we can see how well they support international labor unions and are anti-free-trade and anticorporation. Their incisive questioning of the rationale for the Iraq War put Bush on notice that NOTHING would slip by them! Their coverage of the beating and gassing of peaceful anti-CAFTA demonstrators in Miami and anti-war dockworkers in Oakland was unparalleled. Their questioning of Bush's economic policies was invaluable, and their insight into the shaky underpinnings of the economy and prediction of the coming meltdown was incomparable!
Fifty years into news coverage, and they're still learning! You'll be lucky to get news from them![/irony]
Yanno, I'd be happy just to find a major news outlet that carried real news and did a little digging and a little thinking, instead of being the corporate tools that they are.

JS, you haven't answered my post.
The media- which you claim is so "liberal"- got ALL of the major trends wrong. Every single blessed one! They rolled over on the Iraq war, the deficit, the housing bubble, the "Patriot Act", deregulation, NAFTA-CAFTA-SHAFTA, bloated executive compensation, highly leveraged investments and the hand-in-glove realtionship between the SEC and the regulated community.
Where they were wrong, they were wrong by kowtowing to Bush. Questions and criticisms were FAR too late to do any good whatsoever, cause "the media" knew they owed Bush for his go-ahead on consolidation. (Thank you, Michael Powell.)
So, how is "the media" so liberal? IMHO they can't even see what's in front of their noses, they're just shills for corporatocracy.

Well played Jong, but you don't really buy that shit any more than I do, in fact you're prolly right there with me in hoping for another Eisenhower to rise from the disasterous relic that is the current GOP and show some actual CONSERVATIVE (as opposed to NeoCon) spine while verbally crackin some heads on both sides of the aisle.
I don't think we're gonna get much from dredging the wreckage of the GOP though, we'd do better pulling from the bottom tiers of the Libertarians, cause at the top they seem bent on repeating every GOP mistake in history as exactly as possible these days.
If we absolutely must dredge the GOP, the prospects are bitter - I've done my homework on this, and Howard Baker is just too old, with failing health, leaving only Richard Lugar as a potential prospect.
I don't agree with Lugar too much, but he's a strong conservative voice with actual ideas instead of rhetoric, and his desire to commit to breaking our oil dependancy is a step in the right direction.
Baker was better at negotiating good ideas into place without pissing folks off, and able to hop across the aisle without starting a brawl, something we desperately NEED right now, but the old coots like eighty-some years old and a bit long in the tooth for a presidency, alas.
We MIGHT make do with Lugar, but only if you find a veep who isn't so loony it sends half the nation fleeing in fear to the other side of the ballot box like Palin did.
Depending on how it's floated, you could set up Ron Paul as a potential veep and I bet that'd run up a pretty good amount of support from moderate-conservatives and right-leaning libertarians, giving you a solid core you wouldn't have to pander to at the expense of sound policies.
But that's really the best I can come up with out of the abysmal failure that the GOP has become, alas.

"We want an aircraft that can reach California." - Speaker Pelosi
Sure, Madame Speaker, and folks in hell want ice water too. But because you're the PRINCESS of Potomac, nothing's too good for you and yours.
CBS Covers Pelosi Jet Controversy Skipped by Other Networks
On Wednesday evening, CBS became the first of the broadcast networks to cover the controversy over House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's efforts to acquire access to a larger jet than what her predecessor used. CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric relayed that Pelosi's request for a "big travel upgrade" was coming at a time when "they're cracking down on congressional perks." After pointing out that Pelosi "finds herself on the defensive" as military officials are "grumbling," correspondent Sharyl Attkisson gave attention to House Republican Whip Roy Blunt's concern that the extra seats on such a large aircraft might be used for fund-raising purposes. According to a Nexis search, the only mentions of the controversy on the cable news networks have come several times this week on CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight and once on MSNBC's Tucker. (Transcript follows)
Below is a complete transcript of the story from the February 7 CBS Evening News:
Katie Couric: "Now, to a story that has Washington buzzing tonight. At a time when they're cracking down on congressional perks, the new Speaker of the House is apparently asking for a big travel upgrade. Sharyl Attkisson reports from Capitol Hill."

February 8, 2007 - 00:22 ET Katie Couric: "Now, to a story that has Washington buzzing tonight. At a time when they're cracking down on congressional perks, the new Speaker of the House is apparently asking for a big travel upgrade. Sharyl Attkisson reports from Capitol Hill."
Sharyl Attkisson: "Ever since 9/11, a small military jet like this has been made available to transport the Speaker of the House for security reasons. The Speaker is second in the line of succession to the presidency. Back then, it was Republican Dennis Hastert. Now it's Democrat Nancy Pelosi. But she may be getting a little more leg room. Speaker Pelosi is reportedly asking for a much bigger jet, a government version of the Boeing 757 that can make the trip between Washington and her San Francisco home without stopping to refuel. The Speaker's critics have dubbed it Pelosi One. Military officials are said to be grumbling about it, and the Speaker finds herself on the defensive. Today she insisted size doesn't really matter."
Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker, clip #1: "It's not a question of size, it's a question of distance."
Pelosi clip #2: "We want an aircraft that can reach California."
Attkisson: "But an aircraft like that can comfortably seat 50. And Republican leader Roy Blunt is among those questioning how all those extra seats might get filled."
Roy Blunt, House Minority Whip: "You know, if you can say to your supporters, you want to fly with me from San Francisco this week, spend the week in New York, and then fly with me back, that's an incredible perk. It's an incredible fund-raising tool."
Attkisson: "Pelosi's office told us she'll follow all the appropriate guidelines. Problem is there aren't any yet. Because of the flack, the Defense Department is now said to be quickly writing rules for the Speaker's plane, everything from size to who can go along for the ride."

The scam story you've bought into of " security reasons " , or that you want folks to believe you've bought into , is laughable. Tell me, what serious " security risk " is there in refueling at a military base ? I'm not questioning her use of a plane, but idea that the Sergeant of Arms is where the idea came up for her to travel non-stop. They're all Gov't employees up there, so it's no stretch to see how they all think. Princess Pelosi sent word of what she wanted, and then the Sergeant of Arms was informed of what to say, so as to give cover for the Speaker of the House.
The media accounts want to give the impression Princess Pelosi flies in military grade, spartan furnished stock jets, when in fact, THIS is how she really rolls. Or rather - flies.
Lavish interiors, state of the art facilities, and enough luxury amenities to rival AirForce One. And all on the tax payer's dime. Suckers.

Hilarious... "Fears of a Clown"... latest editorial from the NYTimes has it so right on the money. I know Rush-o-mites will decry Liberal Bias Bullshite! But read it and understand: this is what the majority of the nation thinks. DEAL!
http://egan.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/fears-of-a-clown/?hp
some clips:
Behold:
The sweaty, swollen man in the black, half-buttoned shirt who ranted for nearly 90 minutes Saturday at the Conservative Political Action Conference. He reiterated his desire to see the president of his country fail. He misstated the Constitution’s intent while accusing President Obama of “bastardizing” the document. He made fun of one man’s service in Vietnam, to laughter.
David Letterman compared him to an Eastern European gangster. But he looked more like a bouncer at a strip club who spent all his tips on one bad outfit. And for the Republican Party, Limbaugh has become very much a vice.
Smarter Republicans know he is not good for them. Polling has found Limbaugh, a self-described prescription-drug addict who sees America from a private jet, to be nearly as unpopular as Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who damned America in the way that Limbaugh has now damned the nation’s newly elected leader. But Republicans just can’t quit him.
For Democrats, this is all going to plan. It was James Carville and associates who first cooked up associating Limbaugh with the opposition, as Politico reported. Then on Sunday, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel said Limbaugh was the “voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party.”
So well said - I think Rue had the last one.

I know - they should have attacked someone worthy of attack. The gays, for instance. ;)
And I still don't think you've got it figured out; the idea is to brand the Republican party with Rush's version of nationalism and "hope for failure" for America. Rush, while widely disliked, is still a wildly popular talking head, and as I pointed out earlier, he IS the visible head of the Republican movement, whether he likes it or not.
So the idea is to take that association and cement it in peoples' minds. When you think "Republican", the picture that pops into your mind will be the fat, pasty white dough-faced mug of Rush.
I've explained it to you in really simple terms, and you and 'Rap STILL won't get it. We WANT you to defend Rush and identify with him, we WANT you to stand up proudly and say that Rush is all that's good about your party - because we're going to use every word of it against you in the next round of elections!

BTW - how's your money doing lately ? And your debts and your home title ? Mine are all just fine, thank you, since I saw ahead of time what was going on and got ready.

I guess you all just can't help yourselves. It's your modus operendi to demonize and marginalize anyone who disagrees with you. Do you normally spend the hours of your life fomenting and raging against someone who's so not important? The Obama mafia, in their dastardly quest to distract Americans from their pitiful economic & social policies, have lowered themselves down to the level of attacking a radio show host. How very Presidential of them! What a joke. What a sad bunch of political hacks and cronies.
Mike
I think you need to hear the FULL quote during the original Hannity interview from January 21. You've only heard the 10 second sound bite that Carville is permeating through his media friends. Rush said he didn't know what to expect from Obama, but he had his doubts. He said if Obama would embrace Reagan-style tax-cutting economic policy, then HE WOULD SUPPORT OBAMA'S PLANS. But if he embraced Pelosi-style socialism, he would wish Obama to fail. See the difference Kwicko? So it was a quantified wish for failure based on the "socialism" angle. If you doubt me, look up the interview on Hannity's website. I promise you won't catch a disease.
Also, if you think this is a good strategy against Republicans you better hope & pray that Obama's massive spending works, and relatively soon. But if Rush is proven to be correct in his dire predictions of economic ruin due to Obama/Pelosi's re-distribution of wealth policies, who's going to be destroyed by it? You said the same thing a week or two ago, right? This strategy is desperate and absurd at this point for Obama. Nothing to gain, everything to lose, I believe.

Hey, before the above post w/ the interior pics, I all I gave was the actual report from CBS. Don't like it ? Whine to them.

I'm curious - are those interior pics of the ACTUAL plane you (wrongly) claim Pelosi "demanded"? Or are they of some other 757, showing possible configurations for customizing such a plane? And if they ARE of the plane Pelosi used - ONCE - then I have to ask a follow-up question: Don't you have a problem with the U.S. Air Force having such a lavish contrivance in their existing inventory? What on Earth are THEY doing with such a thing, if it indeed is the actual plane in question? Who are they schmoozing with such lavish accomodations?
I only ask because I don't know the answers to these questions, but obviously you do. Right?
Oh, and all I gave were the facts reported by the White House, the Pentagon, Congress, and FactCheck.org. If you want to whine about that, go and whine to them.

I find it funny you conveniently BELIEVE the White House on matters where it defends your precious Dems, but on all OTHER matters.... they're LIARS!
I guess when the White House, Congress or the Pentagon are reporting on Iraq, you believe them , no questions asked, right ?
Good.
( And if you have to ask if those are REALLY the interior pics of Princess Pelosi's plane she DEMANDED to have .... I'm not tellin'. )

Just as you CONVENIENTLY believe Katie Couric - unless she's interviewing that idiot hillbilly Sarah Palin, of course - at which point she's a LIAR!
And what of you, who believe EVERYTHING the White House and the Pentagon (and any Republican member of Congress) tell you, EXCEPT this? What's that say about you? That you're at least as much a gullible ass as you're trying to portray me as, that's what.
Trust but verify. You might remember that. Some dead asshole said it, on one of those rare occasions when he was in his right mind.
The White House, the Pentagon, Congress, FactCheck, Snopes, etc., etc. - they've all debunked your spurious claims, more than once.
Oh, and did you see where John McCain went to Iraq during the campaign, and DEMANDED to be guarded by a company of soldiers, armored vehicles, and no less than four helicopter gunships? Man, the balls of that guy - he's not the Speaker, the VP, or really anyone of any importance, but he DEMANDS to be coddled by the military while he's off on a press junket to try to puff himself up for the voters!
Looks like two can play that game...

Why oh why oh why must websites based on entertainment be tainted and besmirched with all of this divisive political talk? Yes, I commented on the "25 most conservative movies", but that was more out of frustration.
This is supposed to be a website dedicated to our mutual love for a great series. It should NOT be brought down to the level of name calling and bickering. I mean face it. None of your points of view are going to change the other side. Both are solidly rooted in what they believe to be "truth" and as such will not be swayed. Heck, I was stupid enough to think that what I had to say in that other thread would make a difference. But it won't. Liberals hate Conservatives and Conservatives dislike Liberals. That's the way it is. I suggest we put that all aside and concentrate on our mutual interest.
This is just plain sad.

Just came across this, found it amusing. John Millius, long-term Republican and staunch conservative - the dude directed Red Dawn, and Conan, and won't take any job before he is given an antique gun as a gift - is calling for the execution of Rush.
Quote:
"I was watching Rush Limbaugh the other night, and I was horrified. I would have Rush Limbaugh drawn and quartered. He was sticking up for these Wall Street pigs. There should be public show trials, mass denunciations and executions."
"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

Okay, set aside for a second that the timing of that poll, and the wording, could easily be interpreted by those polled to have been about the election...
Find an example with a person with as high a profile in the party as Limbaugh, saying the same, and you might have a point. Becuase what you present is not a parallel.
I'd also note that the point of the article is for people to stop pointing fingers, and work together in a bi-partisan way to solve problems.... but that part doesn't really mesh with your narrative, so I'm not surprised you'd leave it out.

There are far more crooks in Congress, who are to blame for the mess we're in , than are on Wall Street. Again, Rush is right. I don't care what credentials anyone has when they speak out against Rush, as long as they have the facts straight. Most don't.

We punish the bad guys on Wall Street, but never punish the guys in Congress who STARTED this whole god damn mess.
It's undeniable that Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and Chuckie Schumer bear far more of the brunt of the blame than anyone. But not 1 god damn thing is going to happen to them. Where's the REAL outrage at those who started this shit, and spare me the faux outrage at the guys on Wall Street. It was Capitol Hill, not Wall Street, that caused all this mess.
