I thought this guy Obama was gonna usher in a new era of Socialism!!! What's this 'bipartisan' crap?? Where's the money I'm supposed to get from the pockets of the rich, huh??? He was a pal of Ayres? Bulls**t! He's just another moderate, trying to bring both sides together!!!
Where's Castro when we need him?

Yeah, we can tell. You're not really interested in women, or men --- you like bagels.

I toldja in another thread that it would be a smart idea to keep Gates on, and explained why.
I am pleasantly surprised that he did so - I don't like Gates much, but if we mean to get things settled and get the hell out of there, then we gotta go with someone already up to speed, and this is NO time for on the job training of a newbie.

There there, my little comrade, O-dawg hasn't even taken the oath yet. There'll be time a plenty for him to screw up and do something unmitigatedly stupid and far, FAR Left wing.
Fret not.

Obama's picks are interesting and telling. They're generally not my "team", but all in all it's much better than I thought it would be. After all, Republicans lost, and losers can't be too picky.
Obama's a smart guy. I think with his victory in hand he discovered that being President is a tad different than running for President. I think he now wants to be a great 2-term President for all Americans, and he is not going to be ultra-beholding to the radical Left that initially catapulted him onto the big stage.
I also think he's coming to the realization that the world is more dangerous and complex than he imagined. He is surrounding himself with people with experience and perhaps differences of opinion on issues so he can make wise decisions, not party-affiliated decisions. I have no problems with his Administration, but AG nominee Holder is a slimy dirtbag who I despise.

Oddly, we find ourselves in agreement - even on the Holder thing.
One thing I really liked about Obama's campaign finance was that because so much of his money came from SMALL donors (like me, who gave $30 a month for the last 6 months), he isn't necessarily in the pocket of anyone except the American people. That would be some kind of change, wouldn't it? A President who answers to the people? Odd notion, that.
Gates seems to be the right man for the job, something that could NEVER be said of Rumsfeld. I'll even forgive Gates for being an Aggie. ;)
Edited to add: Here's a typical example of an "Aggie Joke"; this one is about how an Aggie prepares for a hurricane:

Gates isn't entirely stupid, although it's a bit late in the day for a suggestion I made like eighteen and some months ago.

Hello,
I'm glad to see a return to aggressive recruitment. It worked very well during and after WWII, and there's no reason not to continue the practice. As long as the best and brightest want to be here, let's gleefully adopt them.

Quote:And you're right...if somebody came right in they'd be phoning gates 100 times a day with questions. Besides, it pacifies the Rappy's of the world while probably not pushing back the pullout date. Gates might appreciate a president who thinks using his mind.

It's nothing to be alarmed about.
