Quirky pairings, missed opportunities and the like in BUFFY.

Just having finished re-watching season 4 (yet again). It struck me how delicious a relationship between Willow and Riley could have been.
What a twist for these two types of characters had they ended up with one another. So much less conventional than Buffy and Riley.
The way their relationship was developing was so much more fun. Especially as Willow was grieving the loss of Oz. Add to that a confrontation between Oz and Riley instead of Oz and Tara...
Oh well. Anyway that aside anyone else have thoughts about pairings? Or missed opportunities?

Oh, wow! What a great idea! I would love for Xander to fall for vampire Harmony (he IS a demon magnet!)...
we know Harmony is off human blood... but she is still really annoying, and funny.
I guess it wouldn't be the same if they did it in the comic?
And judging from the comic I think they are flirting w/the idea of Xander and Dawn... or do you think I'm wrong?

Yeah - that slo-mo 'fight' that Xander and Harmony had in season 4 is still one my funniest Buffy moments. I crack up everytime. There would have been plenty of mileage in those two getting together. Pity.
As for Dawn and Xander - Hmmm. Not sure I like that? Kinda creepy when you think that Xander had a thing for Buffy.

I always thought Willow and Spike...just me?...ok then. I never really cared for Riley at first but I think he and Willow would have been a cute pairing.

No, no I hear ya. I think there was definitely something there when Spike was trying to bite her in season 4. Willow was such a great character back then that you could almost believe any pairing. Alison Hannigan gave Willow so much depth that really almost anything was possible.
I thought Riley was great as a goof! His and Willows interaction up to Hush was always enjoyable. Not often you have someone with his look who is prepared to be foolish. I wasn't as keen on Riley as soldier boy though, but that was more of a concept thing than the character.

Glad to know I'm not the only one lol. The whole Buffy/Spike thing was *shudder*. I was always holding out for Willow/Spike.
I really changed my mind on Riley basically 'cause I felt bad for him,Buffy really didn't treat him all that great. The only interaction I liked involving the both of them is when they are training together.

Yup. I felt the same way about Spike and Buffy. Also it felt like a betrayal of all that we'd endured with Buffy and Angel. Suddenly season Two and Three had less impact :(
Buffy and Riley interaction was good if only for the Buffy/Riley theme music - which I think is one of the most beautiful pieces of music in the entire series.
..and yes love breaks hearts. Would have liked Xander and his unrequited love for Buffy to have seen all seven seasons. Would have made Xander the ultimate tragic hero.

Buffy didn't really treat anyone all that great after Angel left, not even Angel.
Sorry to say it, Buffy was kind of a total bitch.
Spike and Willow are my two favorite characters, so for no other reason I would have liked to see them together. Oz and Tara were also high on my list of favorites. I never liked Spike with Buffy, because, as I mentioned before, Buffy was a bitch. She regularly beat the crap out of him and he was still crazy about her. (Literally out of his mind some of the time.) That really bothered me. She was the ultimate selfish bitch, which bothered me in the first place, and he put up with it, which made it worse. I know that she was the heroine of the show, but I could almost never see her that way. All these things that all her friends talked about, I wondered where some of it came from.
Anyway, I'm totally digressing. I really liked Spike and would have liked to see things work out better for him. Willow had a lot of power and a lot of beauty on all levels. She could have tempered his aggression, I think, and it could have been very sweet. That one, I can see, after Tara. I didn't hate Kennedy or anything, but I never really bought that pairing.
