While Condi is the technical expert, McCain has quietly taken the lead on recent US-Georgia relations.
He has made a number of side trips there during his frequent forays into the Middle East. He is personal friends with the Georgian President. So yes, I'd consider his opinion on the ability and willingness of Georgia to repel the invasion or what would be an acceptable compromise.
A member of his current staff was a paid lobbyist for Georgia. Its likely among that which drew him to McCain's staff...ie they share a common knowledge and interest in that region.
To be fair, McCain has been heavily involved in post-Soviet relationships with Eastern Europe and former Soviet republics.

Obama said the UN Security Council should vote on resoultion condemning Russia. I guess he doesn't know that Russia is a permanent member of the council, so there will never be any resolution passed. You're probably right Chris. Any of us can "go negative" about anything or anybody on this board, but I believe it's better to keep things out of the gutter and reasonably rational. This chap is like PN, except without the stinging quarter-truths and funny pictures.
