Yeah, but I have the routine scattered throughout the site. So if I'm going to do it, I have to do them all at once, otherwise it's going to cause everyone grief when the site won't recognize them.
The cookies were originally put in to keep the user alive on the site. If the user's session timed out, instead of kicking a user to the login screen, it'll attempt to re-login the user automatically, thus avoiding the login screen.
Yeah, it was one of my bright ideas (at least at the time it was). What I didn't expect was that people would want to logout.
