It has already been mentioned on the previous thread that a new project concentrating on the BD Collector's Edition will be underway soon, originating from the Slighty Irregular Browncoats over on serenity movie.org . It's going to be called Operation Signal Boost. If y'all will be a tad patient, you might want to see if that project is one you might want to participate in. If not, no harm done. We're all wanting to do what's best for the 'verse, so more power to anyone who has another approach

I hate to step off subject, but as an American I take offense. Firefly was an American show so not only should you adopt American English spellings, you should start wearing white tube socks, chewing lots of gum, eating lots of hamburgers, and talk loud in public locations.

@Anduine:

You're also going to have to ditch the metric system.

Ok. Went out and bought some tube socks and chewing gum and practising sayin y'all.
So havent been through here the last couple.

But here's an update. Looks like the top 2 projects (meaning most discussed) aside from ongoing efforts that we can throw ourselves behind are:

(1) Newsletter-either electronic or hardcopy or both

(2) Blog-site or Website that can enhance the other sites out there.

(3) Efforts that are ongoing to aid.

A core group of sorts has been initially formed (and I mean initially) and I've responded to those who have expressed solid enthusiasm and the offer to help. IF I'VE MISSED ANYONE PLEASE PM ME!!

In other words if I haven't sent you a PM with my email and/or you havent responded back, please let me know so I can include you on the list.

We will be having an 'official' chat discussion within the next week. A temporary leader will be picked for each of the 3 groups or sub-groups listed above.
These groups will be able to discuss between themselves off-line to begin to develop a workable plan and strategy.
Veterans will be enlisted to act either in an advisory or working capacity (so we're not going after something already being done and help us to understand existing politics).

Once a workable and reviewed plan is complete...we'll take it to the next steps.

Really good idea's and discussion from all this. Now let's 'start doin'.

Ok, I can't take credit for this one. One of my old boss's and I did it as cheap local advertising a couple years ago (he suggested it).

He got a bucket of side-walk chalk and we went around in the wee hours of the morning creating a little bit of art adverting our stuff. We targeted side-walks around the local universities and bus stops.

Just a thought for those that have an extra $5 and some (or more) artistic talent. That and not an early morning or insomnia

There's also the Firefly / Serenity DVD's going up on the shuttle to the space station. Although I think the Special Edition release is probably the better event to plan a campaign around.

Hey, the more events to promote the DVDs the merrier!

The shuttle/space station event is so ultra cool... makes me tingly all over. This is definitely something to celebrate and shout about, just like the upcoming SE release.

As has been pointed out on the other thread, there are most likely fans already who have been making plans for certain promotional activities. So instead of inadvertently duplicating efforts, or worse yet, accidently conflicting, we should first find out about any promotional activities which are already in motion. So much more can be accomplished by joining forces...

I haven't been able to keep up with everything myself, but I'm thinking that the shuttle/space station event probably has people who are working on something for it. So it would be good for interested folks to look into this and help give it a boost.

The release of the Serenity SE DVD can have several different promotional activities tied to it. The more varied the promotion, the better it will reach out to new people. It's always good to keep in mind on how to reach people who don't frequent all the regular places that we do. There's plenty of "offline" folks who would love Firefly and Serenity if they knew about it.

Yup , 11th , there are some really good folk working to commemorate the Shuttle ascent and ISS DVD's...

A stealthy Browncoat Astronaut is on our side...

The INDEPENDENT SPACEBORNE FORCES have enlisted Film / Video Game Composer Austin Wintory to create New Browncoat Music especially to commemorate the Shuttle /ISS event , plus we have a flight "to the Edge" scheduled for June 2nd to kick off 2007's 'Summer of SERENITY' !

We are tentatively scheduling a flight trial of a particular airship design for the window of September 20th-30th , 2007 !

...Browncoat payloads will also be aboard this experimental flight in what is also a mature program !

We intend to raise the profile of Browncoats to new heights ALL SUMMER LONG in our endeavor , which we have titled ,
" Browncoats Rising !"

11th , we want an art piece from you to ride along June 2nd !, and on the subsequent flights , also . No pressure , though , just has to be fun !

Small is fine , as weight is a big consideration on these missions...

We would be so gorramn proud if you'd join us for this !

Also , Bless His Soul , B!X is working on a website , called 'Breaking Atmo' , Opening Soon !

Another great way to promote the DVD release if you've a local pub or bar you and friends attend.

Here in Chicago I've what we call a local and friends and I generally gather there a few times a week for a few pints an general discussion. Over time since we're regulars we've gotten to know staff and owners quite a bit.

Last year we asked the owner to show Serenity on the regular pub 'movie night' on Thursday. Which he did gladly for us. Quite a few of the regulars really enjoyed it and I got to join a lot of side conversations and direct them to the FF series.

This year I've already talked to him about doing it again, and I'll get some table tents and what not (I'm a printer by trade) to inform those watching about different websites, etc., they can go to for more info on the movie, series, what not.

I'll post the event on a few web threads when we pick the date.

So if youre like myself and go out with a few friends for a social now and then and have a local, or establish a local, get to know the owner (theyre generally glad of your patronage if you frequent the place), and ask for a movie night and or to pop it on their DVD player for one. Usually if there's no sports or other they'll oblige.

You can then promote the event within the bar (posters, simple flyers...), get the local browncoats to attend and support. It usually makes a big hit with the owners if they get the patronage.

The biggest benefit is that people who have never seen or heard of Serenity or FF will get some interest and may join ranks. Plus it's just good fun.

Just a good idea that's been tried and tested.
