Somewhere outside the Trading Station a little boy turned to his mother and said "That sounded like a repeater."

"It did sumwat sound like gun blast. Perhaps you ought to run and tell a lawman." replied the kid's mother.

As she turned back around a Reaver attacked her. Meanwhile back inside the Trade Station, River had a violent vision and fell to the ground. Jayne saw her and made his way towards her.

"What is it?" asked Jayne as he held both of her shoulders.

River turned her wide eyed gaze to Jayne and said "Reavers."

"The leg is good and it'll bleed plenty." said Mal to the guard inside the vault room as Zoe loaded up the loot.

"I was thinking more of a graze." replied the guard.

"You don't want to look like you just gave up." countered Mal.

Just then Jayne came running in.

"Mal!" shouted Jayne.

"Every heist he's gotta be yellin' my name." muttered Mal. Mal turned to Jayne and asked "What is it?"

"Reavers. The girl's pitchin' a fit about them. They're here or there comin'." replied a frightened Jayne.

Mal turned back to the guard and said "Does that vault lock from the inside?"

"Yes." replied the guard.

"Get everyone inside the buildin' and get them inside the vault." replied Mal.

"Yeah but.." replied the guard but Mal cut him off as he got into the guard's face and shouted "GET THEM INSIDE THE VAULT!"

Reavers. I'd never seen any in my years of travel, so I'd convinced myself they were nothing but stories and exaggeration, even with the crew’s obvious experience with the monsters. Horrified screams from outside the bank and shrieks of pure fury convinced me that the truth was much worse than the fiction.

“You see ‘em? Anybody see ‘em?” Jayne shouted with anxious fear, his head darting around.

About thirty yards from us, a trio of torn, snarling ‘men’, clad in makeshift armor saw us and began running towards us with jagged weapons raised. I put a bullet in one’s head, stunned to see it continue for several steps before collapsing. The other two Zoe and Jayne brought down while Mal ushered River onto the hover-mule.

Death was abound, Reaver’s flying from their ominous, black ships, tearing into the town like a summer blaze. Blood spilled into the street, as man, woman, and child were all killed alike. I shot down four more before Zoe shouted for me as she started the mule up. I hopped on, keeping my guns drawn.

The man Zoe had educated in the bank ran towards us, screaming, “Take me with you! I can’t stay here, please!”

“You’re too many!” Mal shouted as the man struggled to get onto the mule. With a shove, Mal re-introduced the man to the dirt, where Reavers hungrily snatched him up. Taking careful aim, Mal shot him in the chest, causing the Reavers to drop the fresh corpse with disinterest.

It is very sad indeed 13. It's even sadder if you realize that I'm pretty much the only member who's been here since the beginning, that does post. *sighs* I guess I'll have to blackmail Ertia again.

The hover mule raced forward, past a building with a yellow awning, smashing into some cages that had chickens in them. A few short moments later a group of Reavers followed in a menacing skiff.

"Faster! Faster would be better!" shouted Mal to Zoe just as the Reaver skiff tapped the hover mule. The skiff was about to ram them again when Jayne shot at it, causing it to back off a ways.

"How come they ain't shootin' us outta the sky?" yelled Jayne as sporadic gunfire erupted from the skiff.

"They want us alive for the up close kill." shouted Mal as both he and Jayne fired at the skiff again.

"They want us alive when they eat us." said River, from her scrunched down position.

OOC: This is going to be a mite long, with a little variation to the cargo bay scene. (Oath against Mal in this Big Damn Movie, it seems.)

This is it, I thought, as the skiff bore down on us, harpoons and jagged projectiles flying.

I fired bullet after bullet, sliding back into my time as a gunslinger-for-hire on the Rim. A time of muzzle fire and blood-smelling smoke. I’d lived a life of

They’ll take her, I realized with dawning anger. They aren’t just bogeymen; they’re as real as she is. Steeling myself, I reloaded, shot, ignoring the steel stake that rammed into my left shoulder, pushing the pain into the attic of my mind.

“Where are my clips!?” Jayne shouted, replied by an urgent reminder from Captain Reynolds. Reaching for the rear hatch, Jayne’s hand came close to removal from an over-sized shuriken.

In what seemed to be a split-second later, a harpoon had pierced through the mercenary’s leg, a hungry rope leading back to the Reavers. Gripping the bumper of the mule, Jayne shouted with fear as Mal tried to get a steady shot. I almost laughed at his remark, until the Captain severed the rope with a bullet. I still chuckled a bit.

What’s the point? I thought, numb blood running freely from my shoulder, dropping my left gun. They’ll run us down, pick us apart like insects. Only thing you can do is keep River safe for as long as you can.

Serenity, swooping from the skies, a rickety deathtrap angel. With a thought of ‘Deus ex machina,’ the ship swept us from the ground, (resulting in Mal flying from the mule to land with safety) leaving the Reaver’s dark skiff to crash into the underside of the cargo bay entry-way. My head collided solidly with a piece of sharp metal, and dark blood glazed my eye.

Ignoring the thundering pain of both that and my shoulder, I rose shakily to my feet, glad to be rid of that hellblasted mule. My right-gun was still in my hand, still loaded, still ready to kill as I fixed my sights on Mal, striding towards him with anger misting my mind.

“Are you okay?” a stairway-perched Kaylee asked Simon, who’d thankfully opened the cargo bay doors before we’d hit.

“Is he okay?” Mal asked incredulously, a shocked look on his face.

A dark, soul-rattling scream came from the wreckage of the skiff, which had somehow found its way onboard. A black-clad Reaver, face torn beyond humanity, whirled a blade high above its head.

Instinctively, Mal, Zoe, Jayne, and myself poured bullets into the monster, who maintained the ferocious stance for several moments before collapsing, blood dyeing the bay red. Not the first time that Reavers had died here, so I’d heard. Hopefully, it would be the last time.

I ceased the barking orders of the captain with a suckerpunch to Mal’s jaw with my good arm, sending him rocketing to the floor. Alright, maybe not rocketing. He did fall down, though, which sated my anger some.

“How dare you take her into that?” I hissed, trying to inconspicuously soothe my sore knuckles. “How dare you?”

The sight of Mal’s burning eyes did make me back down some, but I maintained my eyes on the slightly taller and heavier man.

“Seems to me that you ain’t in a position of command, passenger,” he hissed. “You done little on this boat but keep quiet and be over-eager,” he sneered, adding, “That is, to most of us ‘cept River.”

I sputtered for a moment, trying to conjure up an explanation.

“You knew she was going into a dangerous situation!” I shouted as the crew watched, remaining silent.

“I ain’t a gorram prophet! She shoulda been safe as houses, not for the Reavers!” His eyes narrowed. “What I’m worried ‘bout is your interest in her. I’ve asked, and now I’m gonna be told: what’s your story?”

OoC: To help with the 'visualizing' of our characters, I think we should have a casting list. I've seen this on other RP threads here, and I think it'll help.

Oath/Szatsu Niccolo: played by Gary Oldman

I'll have an IC post tomorrow.

Bears just lost the Super Bowl I'm depressed and who would play John I don't know

"Stop fighting" John said his voice commanding echoing in the expanse of the cargo bay. He walked with an air of confadence anyone who wasn't there could never have known he'd been having a seizure just minutes ago. "There's no purpose just anger. Mal had every right to take River on the job. Simon you have every right to be angry at him. Oath you seemed overly concerned with someone that as far as I know is none of your gorram business but that's for another time. Many of us just had a near deah experiance I understand that but right now what's important is that no one died. If you all wanna bitch at each other do it another time cause this empath has a headache the size of earth that was and is heavily armed."

"We're leaving" Simon said from a corner after John had finished yelling. "Me and River we're gone"

"Fine but I got a hurt crew and until you leave the boat you're still my medic." Mal walked from the room head held high. John looked over and wondered how many locked doors it would take for him to let it droop.

I didn't even know the Super Bowl was on yesterday. As for who would play Pain, I have no clue, cause there aren't that many actors who're 6' 8".

Location: Cargo Bay

Before Mal and Zoe left the cargo bay for the Front Hall, Mal turned and said "Kaylee I want you to scavenge through this scrap for anythin' that might be usable. Jayne I want you, Guy, and Nico to clean up this mess and toss everythin' into the lower hold to space. Dong ma? Everyone else can do whatever."

There was no talking, just a couple of nods and Zoe and Mal left for the Front Hall.

Location: Front Hall

"No I think things'll glide a deal smoother for us without River and Simon onboard, but how long do you think they'll last?" asked Zoe as she and Mal entered the Front Hall.

"Doc made his call. They's as babes in a basket when we took them in. We sheltered 'em plenty. Man has to cut loose, learn to stand on his own." replied Mal as he made his way towards his bunk.

"Like that man in town?" asked Zoe.

"I had to shoot him. What the Reavers woulda done to him before they killed him.." replied Mal, stopping in front of his bunk's hatch.

"I know. That was a piece a' mercy. But before that, him beggin' us to bring him along.." replied Zoe, a hint of sadness in her tone.

We couldn't take the weight. Woulda slowed us down." replied Mal.

"You know that for certain?" asked Zoe.

Mal turned to face Zoe and said "Mule won't run with six. I shoulda dumped the girl? Oath? You? Or Jayne?" Mal considered the last part and sighed "Oh Jayne."

"Coulda tossed the payload." replied Zoe.

"Toss the payload?" Mal asked, his tone rising a bit before continuing "In case you haven't noticed, I have parts fallin' off my ship, I have a crew that hasn't been paid, and oh yeah a powerful need to eat sometime next month!"

Wash chose that time to exit the bridge.

"Sir, I don't disagree on any particular point. It's just...in the time of war, we woulda never left a man stranded." replied Zoe.

"Maybe that's why we lost." came Mal's response just as he opened his bunk's hatch.

Wash and Zoe watched as the Captain entered his room and closed the hatch behind him. Wash then walked over to his wife and wrapped his arms around her waist. Zoe smiled and nestled him.

Location: Cargo Bay

Time has passed and the only ones in the cargo bay are Jayne, Guy, Nico, and Kaylee. However unbeknownst to them, River is laying on the catwalk and listening in to the conversation below.

As Jayne drags the plastic wrapped body of the Reaver over to the lower hold, he says out loud "I do not get it. How's a guy get so wrong?"

Jayne kicks the body into the hold, walks over to a piece of wreckage, and continues "Ain't logical. Cuttin' on his own face, rapin' and murderin' I mean. I'll kill a man in a fair fight or if I think he's gonna start a fair fight, or if he bothers me, or if there's a woman, or I'm gettin' paid. Mostly only when I'm gettin' paid. But these Reavers...last ten years they just show up like the bogeyman from stories. Eatin' people alive? Where does that get fun?"

Jayne dumps the piece of wreckage into the hold as Kaylee fiddles with what looks to be a catalyzer.

"Shepherd Book said they was men that reached the edge of space, saw a vasty nothingness and just went bibbledy over it." replied Kaylee as she gave the part a good once over.

"Hell, I've been to the edge. Just looked like more space." replied Jayne as he kicked a part into the hold. He grimaced after he did so.

"I don't know. People get awful lonely in the Black. Like to get addlepated ourselves, we stay on this boat much longer. Captain'll drive us all off one by one." replied a sad Kaylee as she put down the part.

"Yer just in a whinge cuz that prissy doc is finally disembarkin'. Me I says good riddance. He never belonged here, and his sister's no saner then one of 'em Reavers." replied Jayne.

Kaylee shot Jayne a look and said "That ain't even so! River's a dear friend and a boon to this crew! You just don't like

OOC: Acting as Pain's genie (without the baldness) I'll post at least once a day until the thread picks up again, be it bump, OOC, IC, or a mistake! Oh, and you may notice some new-old changes to 13!

***INCOMING WAVE***

TO: MALCOLM REYNOLDS
FROM: UNKNOWN SOURCE

The tattooed, uncharacteristically cheery face of 13 appears on the screen, smiling brightly.

"Hey, Mal! 13 here, just left Haven a while or so back. I heard that Serenity's going to be making landfall at...Beaumonde.

"Well, short story long, I'll be rendesvouzing with you guys there, if possible." He hesitates, and his peculiar grin spreads wider. "Which is probable. That I will be there, that is." His eyes brightening, he adds: "Oh, and could you tell Fly to wave me when she gets a chance? I'm sure she's swamped on Serenity, but I'd like to...hear...from her." His grin falters for a moment, then returns brighter than ever.

"13 out. See y'all soon, my freaky styleys!"

Switching the Cortex screen off with a pleased sigh, 13 takes the sorrowy, angst-ridden note from his jacket pocket, reading it over four times. With a good-humored 'tut' he neatly rips it into four strips, then promptly eats them.

Keeping one hand firmly on the ship's yoke while the other is plunged into a charging station for a Gayme Buoy, electricity flowing into 13.

-OOC: P.S: 13 is played by Aaron Stanford. (Pyro from X-Men 2 & 3.)
