I'm still not sold on Hero's, I don't know what they're really trying to do but put some spandex on them and I'd think I was watching a lesser version of X-Men. If you think people in Kansas care about strikes in other countries, you are crazy. It makes the show more authentic, if anything that they aren't focused on what is going on outside the country. And as far as Heroes being mostly Americans...hello...its an American show. Be happy there were any characters from outside America. When there are only 6 or 7 main characters so far and two are not from the U.S., I don't see much to complain about. I am not offended, but I think that is a silly reason to not like the show.
Hello, I never said I hated it and I am watching the episodes, and I even said if you read what I wrote that I know it's because it's an American show, but my point is valid, there is more to the world than the States. And maybe you can be a little less snarky in your reply thank you very much.

Managed to catch it, mostly by humongous accident. Think it might have some real potential. Sofar it seems to be mounting to be atleast a semi-interesting post/during-apocalypse series. Really liked the first two episodes, hopefully the rest will be equally entertaining.

Getting back to your comment, I think the premise of the show is simply that if something like this were to happen, the survivors would be reduced to the least common denominator - the family, the small town, the farm - and without CNN or their cell phones working or any kind of infrastructure they wouldn't have a clue how far the destruction went. It would be a very strange sensation to be completely without information.

I've never seen "The Day After", but there is one movie that this show reminds me of. It's this flick called "Testament", which is basically an hour and a half version of "Jericho" that's set in the early 80's. You follow this average family around for a half hour before there's a big flash, and then you basically see the family members one by one die off from radiation poisoning.
It is by far the most depressing studio movie ever made, and ironically it was a made-for-tv movie that the studio loved so much that they decided to bump it up to a theatrical release. Incredibly realistic and spiritually cleansing. But if you want to see something that'll make you want to kill yourself when the credits roll, and not because the movie is so horrible, this is it right there.
But my absolute favorite, end-of-the-world movie is this Canadian movie called LAST NIGHT. I've said plenty about it on this site, so I won't repeat myself. Just find it and watch it. You'll love it.

Your point isn't valid. Heroes does have international characters. Through week 2 of Jericho, when this debate started, there was no communication received by anyone except the ham radio at the end. there was no way to possibly know about anything outside of their town. I've been to Kansas...you would not bump into people from foreign countries or anyone who cares about foreign countries in a town like Jericho.
Then in week 3, they did somehow get satelite feed from China. I did find it realistic that the first thing they thought when they saw the broadcast was to wonder if China attacked them.
CBS is America's most PC network. They love to have their shows have as many different race/ethnicities as possible. I am sure we will see more as the time goes by, whether it is reasonable or not.

Of the newshows this season I have seen so far:
Smith and Studio 60 are the best. Great quality.
Heroes looks very good, but after 1 episode is still a little hard to judge.
Vanished is good although I am worried it is going to get cancelled without conclusion.

Six Degrees sucked harder than Christy Canyon. Avoid at all costs! Even Tom Brady's girlfriend being one of the stars and J.J. Abrahms being one of the creators couldn't salvage that piece of dung.
Still waiting on The Nine, which I hear may be the best new show this year, and Knights of Prosperity which looks like it could actually be a unique sit-com.
Wow what a blast from the past!!!
Looking back, Smith was AWESOME, but got cancelled after three or so episodes (another four aired online, plus they had scripts for the rest and explained how it would have ended. It would have been one of the best shows ever.
Studio 60 was high quality, but got too preachy and died off.
Hereos season 1 wound up being FANTASTIC. Season 2 was hit or miss.
Vanished did get cancelled, but at least they aired the remaining episodes on line, and we saw the victim finally escape.
Kidnapped also got cancelled, but they finished the season on line. It was actually rather satisfying.
Runaway got cancelled quickly with no resolution. I don't really miss it though.
Til death is still around, and is still allright, and my wife still loves it.
Six Degrees got cancelled, which made me happy. Man, that show sucked. And that Damn Bridget Moynahan got dumped by Brady after she pulled the goalie on him, and she went on a magazine cover and cried about raising her baby on her own...
Anyways, The Nine had a great premise and the bank scenes were really cool, but they made most of the show about life after the bank, which nobody cared about, and it got cancelled.
And of course...Jericho, which was the topic at hand. My initial impressions stayed with me, good but not great. CBS had their handprints all over it, which lowered its quality. Gerald McRaney and Skeet Ulrich were great to watch, along with the Hawkins character, but most of the rest were forgettable.
