I also posted the below on the other thread. I recommend everyone who is willing to wait a little bit post their e-mail addresses and then others when they order can include those addresses on their 'share the love' list so they get a 10% discount. People who do so should quickly post to the thread to let others know which e-mail addresses have already been done, so we don't have the same e-mail address added to too many orders (probably won't hurt other than getting lots of spam from Amazon...)

I WISH Amazon.com was a viable option for us Canucks. I'm leaving the country for six months and want to preorder Firefly, Two Towers Extended, and Babylon 5 season 3 and get them shipped to a friend's but Amazon just hoses us up here. The first and only time I used them I ordered the score for Fellowship cause it was listed as $13.99. I had gone to Amazon.ca thinking it would be the canadian equivalent but, little did I know, it had just routed me through to Amazon.com. When my VISA statement showed up the bloody CD wound up costing me over 50 bucks! There were 3 different fees tagged on to do with shipping and dollar conversion. I can't imagine what these would cost me.

Note to self: Make Canadian equivalent to Amazon.

I am replying to TRS80 only because he is above me. I am not talking about him in anyway, just making a generalization.

The generalization is this:

Christ, 10% is like saving 3 bucks. I would have paid double, triple, more, for this DVD of Firefly.

Why worry about 3 bucks, why purposely lower the total revenue of this DVD? Uniting to save three bucks only hurts Joss's presentation of the commercial value of Firefly. Can't you all pick up pennies between now and December and get yer 3 bucks somehow?

I'm not sure Amazon looks at it like that....the discount is their way of "buying advertising" with you.

It's built into their profit margin...it doesn't affect Joss' take or the reporteed revenues at all, AFAIK.

The $3 comes out of Amazon's cut and it's so much "overhead" to them.

I don't think you have to worry about the revenue stream to ME.

OTOH, the "shareing" greatly increases the potential base of buyers which not only DOES increase ME's revenues, but also promotes the visability which comes from being on a best-seller list.

IMHO.

I hear you. I don't know why FF DVD is not on Amazon.ca. Anyway, I do want to wait for it b/c it will likely be more uh, advantageous, than ordering from amazon.com. I know sometimes something like this delay happens on the Apple.ca store after new product announcements.

And, to that person that asked, all you need is a multi-region DVD player or a DVD drive on your PC that's been firmware unlocked. Pretty easy really, and legal too.

Don't trust Best Buy.

I mean, go ahead and pre-order, but don't bank on actually GETTING it shipped on Dec 9th...

I've had a go-round or two with them before on this crap, the worst of which was the Playstation2 network adaptor when they first came out and were rare as hell.

Ran all over town trying to get one, and eventually wound up on Best Buys site which said "IN STOCK" - to me that means THEY HAVE THEM.

As soon as I put in the order, and they got my MONEY... it clicked over to "back ordered" and I hadda wait THREE GORRAM MONTHS for something they claimed was "in stock" to get my cash.

And is Amazon is sold completely out, and so quickly, do you REALLY believe Best Buy is gonna have more stock ? really ? get real.

Having no other choice, I have an order in too, but I'd say the sun rising in the west is a safer bet than Best Buy actually shipping them on the 9th guys and gals, so be prepared when it don't happen, ok ?

Just figured some fair warning was in order, cause they're just about notorious for claiming they have stuff in stock when they don't.
