No, they're not. The first one was almost two movies in one - they didn't know until they started editing if they were making a kids movie or a movie targeted at teens and nostalgic 20-somethings. The only plus point is the climactic reveal of the villain of the piece.
The second movie they knew they were making a kids film. They (presumably) didn't know it was going to be so bad.

I've only seen the first one, but I thought it was pretty good. It kind of depends on what you want from it, though.
If you want a movie that's exactly like the cartoon, you might be disappointed. There are definitely changes. Some of the characters are different (Daphne is the most different. Velma and Fred are a little off, too, though they're closer than Daphne. Shaggy and Scooby, however, are dead-on, I thought.)
It still had the charm of the cartoon, though, even if it was different. It was funny and it had a good storyline. It had the same element of a well-done mystery.
So, was it the cartoon? No. But, was it a good movie? I thought so. I enjoyed it and so did the rest of my family (the people I watched it with).

Wow, I do believe this is a first.
It's always me who hasn't seen anything that everyone else is talking about. Now, I'm one of only two people (in a rather large crowd, too!) who've seen something?
Nah, not possible! lol There must be some others on here who've seen these. What did you all think?

Huh. That's odd. I never did get around to seeing the second one. Oh, well.
So, the first one was... interesting. I agree with Lisa - Shaggy and Scooby were right-on. In fact, that's the only reason I sat through the whole movie.

Forgive me, for I am new.

I only saw the first one, didn't bother with the second. If you have to go see it, the only stand-outs are Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini, who play Shaggy and Velma, respectively. It won't exactly heighten your opinion of SMG; she was way better in Buffy.

It wasn't bad, but looking back on it, I think they were trying to make Daphne more Buffy-esque in the movie because she was tired of being the damsel in distress.
