If you're not sure what I mean by the unaired pilot, you probably haven't seen it. It's quite obvious that not only was it unaired, it also didn't get a lot of post-production. There's almost no music, no special effects, and I think no colour timing. That's one of the reasons it wasn't very good (fight scenes without music look a bit silly, for example), although I think it'd be bad even with the finishing touches.

Edit: here's a torrent for it:

The unaired pilot is quite sweet as long as you take it for what it is. It was made for what looked to be $1.50; which was spent to make the vampire "dusting" effect (or "flouring" since that's what they used). Willow is completely different, and that library was unbelievable.

It's amazing that someone actually bought the show from that presentation (well it was only the WB but a start's a start). It's even more amazing is the show that came out of that thing, it certainly changed television forever for me!

Wow, one tihng I've noticed so far in Season 1 is INCONSISTANCY! Not so much w/ over all story lines, but in the quality of the writing. So far, after the first 8 eps, they seem to have started strong, and then quickly hit a plateau. A couple of eps were really kinda bad, all things considered. I know it gets better, but it's interesting to see how the series gets going.

It's early, I know, but does anyone mature from start to finish more than Cordellia ? Early Cordy is such a hoot, knowing how she is later on in ANGEL.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

Cordellia exhibits the most drastic and obvious change, but they all mature, and that's what I love about it, it's all about change, like RL (but with vampires...and demons...and dimensions...all right, not so much like RL, just the emotions and stuff.)

Have ya finished the first season yet?
Hurry, you only have 6 more to go

I am just introducing a friend to BtVS and at first I thought we could get away with watching one or two of the best of Buffy's first season...
(because there are so many that are not great IMO)
but it quickly became obvious that you couldn't just skip over Buffy's growing interest in Angel...
or Cordellia's change of heart,
and (biggest growth of all, to me was) Willow's growing confidence and strength:
When you see mousy Willow run away from the Big Bad Cordellia in the first episode, and then you see her start to find ways to get her own back (making Cordy delete her computer work because she is told to press 'deliver' LOL) and slowly gets to become more of a leader as she develops her strengths....
(big Willow fan here)

Xander's growth is harder to pin point because he was always loyal, and always kind of annoying...
but he really does (slowly but surely) become the man you can depend upon.

Of course Gile's growth is almost a reversal:
he is so proper British, and you slowly find out about all that bad boy past....
mmmm Giles.

That was awesome! One of my fav 'early' moments, for sure.

Also, I was fascinated at a couple of things so far.

- How early Darla's exit comes in the series. What was up w/ that? She was easily one of the best charaters in the show. But, in retrospect, that makes her story line later on in Angel all that more ....special?

- Zander's ' more than just puppy love' crush on Buffy. Dude, who CAN'T identify w/ that ? With everything involved therein, too.

- The Buffy/Angel relationship. Again, I had expected it to be more drawn out before.....well, the sleep over stage.
