Sean, that's where you've made your first mistake. You've got to pick a job where nobody is sure what you do all day. If they have no method of monitoring your activities then how can they tell if you're working or not.
I highly recommend being the sole IT engineer for a medium sized company. If anyone seems to be getting suspicious or giving you attitude, no network access for three days. Make them work at a secretary's desk if they have to.

That seems like a good idea SimonWho.
Unfortunatly SERENITYPUNK I don't have control of the firein'/hirein', I'm just a minion, a resource they call me (which is quite rude considering a computer is an asset). Assets are better than resources :(.

That's mean, and a terrible way to exploit your power over them.
I like it.
"My God - you're like a trained ape. Without the training."

That's the thing. When I worked at a company like that, I was low on the ladder and had no real power except when it came to the computers. As far as anything IT related was concerned, I was a god and my word was law.
"No, you can't go online for three hours, BT's fault" - I'm downloading the last three episodes of Buffy and want it finished before I go home.
"Ooooh, tricky. We may need to get a new harddrive." - So that I can put it in my machine for all my cool stuff and you can have my tiny old one.
"I'm afraid you've corrupted your documents and there's no way to retrieve them." - I don't like you. Redo all your work.

LOL!
How about this, laptop came in, wouldn't take MSPatch/ securities, not that the (security is great, or even good at lloyds) ended up having to reimage it.
Despite the fact that I told the user that the laptop would be wiped, and users aren't supposed to save files to the HD without backing up, thats exactly what he did.
As far as I know his subsequent call to recover his files is still floating around the system...
{insert evil laugh #43}
