Latest Firefly Moment
Saturday, 05 August 2006 01:50:53

I've had so many of these lately I wish it wasn't so ruttin' hot out, else I'd wear my Mal costume proudly everywhere for the duration of Serenity Summer. Anyway. Digression. I'm an instructor for steam-locomotive firemen, and last weekend I had a fairly-new student (only worked with him once before). Target-rich environment? Believe it. I was showing him how to fill and start one of the lubricators, which involves opening a series of valves and then regulating an oil feed, which you can observe coming from a needle in a sight glass. So I was staring intently through this glass, verbally urging this one drop of oil to drip from the needle: "C'mon! Ain't got all day! I promise you that gorram needle is not gonna miss you, let's go!" My student's reaction: "Gorram needle. That sounds like something you'd hear about on Star Trek or somethin'." My smugly grinning reply: "Or somethin'. I got that from another short-lived science-fiction show I was quite fond of." That was the end of that conversation...for the moment. But who, I asked myself later, woulda thunk that teaching new firemen could potentially yield so many new Browncoats? I have two new guys tomorrow. Pardon me while I arm myself to deal with them appropriately. SERENITY NOW!!!!! (Edited to add: point of interest - the piece of equipment we were working on was the Nathan Hydrostatic Lubricator. Coincidence? I think not.)

I think it's kitten time!

The pregnant kitty hasn't shown up for a few days, which probably means the kittens have arrived, I can't wait to see them. I'll let you know when she brings them.

nothing to do with Firefly (a fluke)
Saturday, 05 August 2006 07:47:06

So here I sit. listening to massive attack and underworld. Interesting mix, but fitting. just watched Stay and Vanilla sky. Again, odd mix, but fitting. Actually the two are rather similar. Even in thier choice of music. And, now I see this has abso-bloody-lutely nothing to do with Firefly. How so very rare.

medieval drunkedness
Saturday, 05 August 2006 15:32:13

Well, time for me to be off to the island of Gotland for a week long drunken revilry, medieval style. Expect to have a great deal of fun but unfortunetly there will be no DvD player in the apartment were renting so that means no Firefly. After this week long party I imagine I will be in grave need for another Firefly "fix". See you all in a week! And wish me luck, cause I have to take a ride with a ferry to get to the Island and all you who know me well also know that im completely terrified of water.

Sarcasm and Shiny days

 Lately I have been getting into trouble at work for stupid stuff like raising my voice at the older kids and what it sounded like was a some kind of arm lock?????? I really don't know. But last night I found out that it was a lot of people there trying to get my friend and myself fire for being who we are. So me being me did my job to the "T". I sat back and watched them argue with the kids, Then one said, "Are you going to do something?" I just looked at her and siad, "This isn't my group, it's yours." she didn't like me for rest of the night. But the best part was when all of them were at the table with us I looked at them then to the charge nures and said, "Miss Jamie, seeing that your the charge nures, may I please raise my voice to the kids to quiet them down." And I smiled at them after. They all got up and left the table. one of them stopped and started to talk to me and I cut them off by telling them. "Your speaking and I'm not listening... Why? Don't you have your charting to do? If I was you I'd get it done before someone gose to the front and RATS you out to the gorram feds." Them didn't get it, but my friends and I did. It was my best day ever. --Chiefy
