My mom, a 'Backwoods Home' reader, called me up this afternoon and alerted me to the fact that Firefly was mentioned in the latest issue of the magazine. Of course, I had to go right out and buy it just to see what they had to say. The article is on page #34 with a heading of 'The Best TV Series You Never Saw.' It gives a quick overview of the story and characters for any newbies, and then the author goes into a little bit about how her friend pulled her into the show. Overall, it was a pretty good shot in the arm for our show. So, give your support, buy the magazine! Even if you don't really want to know 'how to build a germination bed', go out and find the issue if for no other reason than to see the words [i]Firefly[/i] in print. :smile:

Had some bad news yesterday. Was at home for my Dad's birthday and our dog had been unwell. They thought she might have conjunctivitus, then an infection. Yesterday they took her up to a specialist who said she had glaucoma in her left eye, rendering it totally blind and would soon develop it in her right eye. This is due to pressure developing in her retinas from her drainage canals being at the wrong angle. To relieve the pressure, which causes major headaches, both eyes will have to be removed. I'm not dealing with this very well. For one thing, I've always had a phobia about eyes being damaged. I couldn't cope with losing my sight, I really couldn't. And now my dog is going to go around without any eyes in front of me. The children who used to bound up to her thinking "cute dog" will now be frightened of her. And I don't know if she'll cope with the change (she's 6 years old). This just sucks.

Yeah, this might sound completely daft, but I am soooo happy. For years and years I have had amazing memories of this obscure, yet historical Cantonese style restaurant in of all places, Butte, Montana. On rare occassions I've run into folks who have eaten there and we've all gotten this strange, faraway and mystical bliss in our eyes... it's like a dream, or de ja vu, or some kind of fanatical attachment to a film noir masterpiece. Yes, the Peking Noodle Parlor. Unchanging, seedy, authentic (Butte's mining history had a 1/3 percentage of immigrant Chinese population at one time), and indelibley, artistically delicious. What am I ranting about? Here I am living in Washington State and I have been giving the raves for this *certain special Chinese noodle parlor* to my husband for years... and I finally googled it up. Found it! Next time we travel over to visit the folks I'm dragging us to "the big pit" of Butte. It's also the site of the Mai Wah Society
