So they're auditioning military folk for Who Wants to be a Millionare on Sunday, but I don't really want to wake up early. That right there is the work ethic that made me the thousandaire I am today. Better set my alarm. I have people thinking I am a smart type person, but in odrer to hone my skills, feel free to ask me anything. That should convince me to stay home on Sunday. Droppy

so anyways. been at a job for several months now. use this handheld nicknamed a crybaby. i thought it was cool. i think of the show everytime i put it on for work. it tells us what kind of change or assistance the cashiers need throughout the store. beeps everytime there is a request. look forward to requesting a day off to see the movie since we live so far away from a theatre. haven't come across anyone here familiar with the show, but will try to convince as many as possible to go to the movie. husband told me scifi will be picking up the old tv series (i've been working so much, no time to get online). if new eps come out, i guess we'll break down and get satellite (cable doesn't run out where i am).

I'm thinking about joining the US Air Force. I've been talking to just about everyone I know, many of whom have military experience and have seen action in Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Korea, and Iraq. Some encourage it (including some who've never served), others don't (including some who have). I've been kicking this around for quite some time now. If I decide to do it, it'll be several months before I actually join. I haven't been praying like I should. Maybe I oughta start. 'Course, if I do, that means I won't be writing Firefly fanfic for a while. But I'll definitely go after a commission (since I already have a degree), and I'll have the resources to go back for my master's. I either want to be a pilot or a communications officer. Right now, I just.......don't know. We'll see.

Before I dive into a James Doohan tribute, I forgot to add that while in San Diego I visited a shop in Seaport Village with a very helpful gal who facially reminded me a whole lot of Kaylee. Very cool. Now, I was in the hotel just getting ready to leave town when I heard of James Doohan's passing on CNN. He will be sorely missed. And what can be said about him, really? He was the first to give us pause to think "Could we really talk to our computers through the mouse?" And he always showed us that it could be done and the dilithium crystals could always take a little more. But the most important lesson I learned from Scotty was this: Always tell your boss it's going to take you two hours to fix something when you know you can turn it around in 45 minutes and really impress him! Thank you Scotty. I hope heaven is putting its new chief engineer to good use! -UO

Wednesday July 20, 2005 was indeed a sad day when the actor who played the grandfather of all engineers (I wonder if Jewel ever got to meet him...) passed away and I shed more than one tear reading the news and some of the posts on numerous websites. Posted myself a couple and husband and myself watched "Trouble with Tribbles" and had a toast with the last of our 21 year old Scotch. The next morning there was an article in the Seattle Times that the Science-Fiction Museum would hold a wake this evening to celebrate the live of James Doohan and I was quite intrigued to go there. I have never been to any convention whatsoever and despite living in the Seattle area like Jimmy our paths never crossed:-( It was a gathering of 200+ people from all walks of life. The museum had to organize more chairs as they did not expect so many people to show up on such short notice, surprisingly little do they know about the power of fandom. It was amazing, they had put together photos, Star Trek clips and a bag pipe player in black tartan who of course did "Amazing Grace". Reminded me of the scenes at the end of "Heart of Gold" , "The message" and "Star Trek II", so more tears could freely flow... Then many shared stories about Jimmy and I happened to sit next to a man who served on the naval carrier "Enterprise" and met Doohan there at a luncheon. He was very impressed with the way Jimmy interacted with everyone and how he had a kind word for each one of them. I guess there is another parallel between James Doohan and Jewel Staite:smile: After the story time they showed "Trouble with Tribbles" and I drove home in the sunset over beautiful Western Washington, the place that I am lucky enough to call my home now just like Jimmy did for many years.

Hockey is back! WHOO! Set aside my personal thoughts on the lockout that took the 2004-05 season from us (both sides were wrong, there were no winners in this situation, the fans lost the most, etc. blah blah). I love hockey, and the NHL is back in business. Sweet smells are smelling a bit sweeter today. So, here's my recent timeline. Nearly two weeks ago: first child born. Also on it's own level of awesomeness. Ten weeks from today: Serenity. I'm guessing you've heard of it. The week after that: Hockey returns. Most notably for me, hockey returns to Nashville. Go Preds! Any locals that might be reading this, you can find me in Section 301, staring in stupor and admiration at the freaks in 303. (www.section303.com for the curious) What could make this better? You mean besides a winning lottery ticket (ohpleaseohpleaseohplease)? A better job. One that I actually enjoy, as opposed to the one I have now, one that I'm growing to despise. Guess I've always gotta complain about something. Still - in short, new baby, the BDM, hockey ... All is right with the world. Well, almost. Still need a new job. Anyone hiring?
