i havnt posted in forever but i doubt anyone even read my post about my pilot!anyways i have turned said pilot into comic so its taking a little longer cause im drawing and writing it pretty much from and idea in my head that was only turned into a partial redone and then redone and then put away pilot. no worries i will have a status report on the comic whenever i decide to get my little procastinating(i think i spelled that right?) self around to finally actually doing it!

Here it is, 4am and I should be in bed. I got in at about 2:30 am from Pennsic and had a lovely time even if my cell phone is still in Pennsylvania at the Eat'n Park (they're gonna mail it back to me.) For those who are confused, the Pennsic War is an annual Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA) event. The SCA is a kind of medieval appreciation society. Pennsic is the annual war for the 'debatable lands'. While there is in fact fighting happening (all sorts of melee weaponry as well as cannons and archery) there is also classes in a large variety of subjects all relating to medieval societies in some way, from various social inpacts from the Plague, to sign language for SCA events, to how to make glass beads and all points in between. There is also...shopping. You can buy all sorts of goodies. Weaponry (swords, lances, bows, knives etc), armour, clothing, fabrics, books of medieval subjects, jewlery, t-shirts, pattern books, stuffed animals (including Plage Rats!) and comic books poking fun at the SCA. While I'm not an SCA member, most of my friends are, and I was finally talked into going to Pennsic about four years ago and had a great time--inspite of the rain (folks were mud-surfing in the roads that year) and inspite of the heat (high 90's and the same in humidity) and having to use porta-potties (aka: people boxes or porta-thrones). The event is just awesome to see. Over 11,000 folks this year, many staying in peroid canvas tents and having fun making their encampments into "home" for two weeks a year. So I have met this guy. Very sweet, intelligent. Makes me laugh so much my stomach hurts AND he is as fanatical about Firefly as I am. Course he is younger by a great deal and lives several states away. :( Still I really enjoy talking to him. We have been talking so much that I really haven't had time to stop in here! #1 starts his first college class today. #2 was worried that he would have no friends with his best friend Borrowed boy gone - I am happy to report that this is not the case. He still misses Borrowed boy and they talk nightly (thank god for family cell plans!) but he has found that there are other people at school that he can hang with. Mom is still unable to use her left arm. I am keeping the faith that all will be well.

Blargh. I just found out that my brother-in-law got to meet Nathan while at the fringe festival in the Captain's hometown. He got an autograph and everything. :pissed: Funny enough, Nathan was the beer tent when my brother-in-law saw him. Yup, Nathan's truly a Canadian boy. :biggrin: Maybe I should trek up to Edmonton for next year's Fringe. Nathan could be back, right?

Well now. I have never before been inspired to write a Blog entry until this moment. My wife and I finally recieved our copy of Done The Impossible, the documentary detailing the rise, fall, and rebirth of firefly. And 30 minutes into the disc....there we were!!! Janna and I had gone to Dragon Con in 2005 seeking autographs for my DVD box set. While there we signed up for a slot to sit for the documentary. We luckly made it in. I asked my interviewer what I could say to make the final cut into the disc and he said "just say whatever you feel the most strongly about. And keep in mind many many people have sat before you so saying something unique would also be helpful" Hmm....unique? Ok...lets see. Hmmmm...... I am a civil engineer by education. I also have a strong interest in astronomy and space exploration. So once the camera rolled I expounded all about my excitement to see a sci-fi show use modern projectile weapon tech in a near future setting. I also spoke about controlled fusion reactions and how this tech is not far from us in the 21st century and how plausible it is to observe Serenity's full burn as a controlled fusion reaction. I also blathered on about astronomy and the excitement I felt when I saw how real the 'verse could be given our current understandings of the star systems around us in our corner of this galactic spiral arm. I figured other people didn't take "The science angle" so I tried that. They didn't use any of it. But what they did take was a little bit of my comments regarding my self-imposed agenda to become a missionary for the program. They also used Janna's comment that in x-mas 2004 we gave out several firefly disc sets. I'm just so happy and proud that they felt that Janna and I added value to their work. The guys that interviewed us were absoutely awsome and I wish I could do it again. So for those of you with a copy of Done the Impossible, Look for Pete and Janna. I'm wearing my blue sun shirt and Janna is in a pink top. They spelled her name with 1 N and she was mildly annoyed at that, but they got her name spelled right in the credits. My only regret was that the staff at Done the Impossible sent me an e-mail asking what, if any, fireflyfans.net handle I had and I completely forgot to reply. So instead of being listed as "thiefjehat" were just listed as "browncoats". Ah well. It's all good!!

ARCADIA

Wow -- it had been over a month since I posted a chapter of my fanfic. I can't believe it. I'm so sorry, everyone! I have been trying, and for a while it was going well, but... 1 - A few days after my last log entry, I got into a car accidnet. Pretty crazy. Our car is dead. It was struck on the passenger side (I was making a left turn when I shouldn't have), and it fell over onto the driver's side. Boom -- and suddenly I was on the ground covered in glass with the wheel smoking and strange car fluids spewing out. I wasn't hurt, though my sister was a little banged up (she's okay now, thank the stars -- though she has a few scars). 2 - After the afrementioned car accident, I just -- I don't know. I weirded out for a while. I was driving. I felt so bad about my sister. I felt so weird because I still needed to drive everywhere, getting things for her, doing favors for my mom, etc. I felt so guilty. I mean... geez. I think I tried for ten hours, no joke. I tried to force myself to write, but I just couldn't. 3 - also, with the accident brough all this strang contemplation about my Aunt's recent death (she died May 20th -- coincidence that I didn't post any fanfic chapters in May? Nope. between that and school ending, and going home to my house with my parents offically divorced... fun, fun). My conclusion, death makes more sense right after it happens. I watched her die, watched her gasp... it was horrible, but it made sense. For some reason, I keep expecting her to be back now, but she isn't. It is so weird. 4 - flash forward to a week later, I moved out of my parent's home into my first apartment. Moving craziness! ah! 5 - flash forward another week, I finally got internet in my apartment. I also write for virtual firefly, and I had a deadline for them, so I focused on that. I did a little with ch 18, but... blah. 6 - Flash forward another week. I have to go back to my mom's house and go to traffic court. I was planning on coming up tuesday (tomrrow), but my best friend is finally back from California (his dad lives there), and he asked me to come saturday so that we could hang. So, I did. And here I am. With all this, I have really forgotten all about "Over the Hills..." It's strange. I can work on other things, but right now when I re-read "Hills.." to get back into the groove, all I can see is the mistakes I've made, and I keep feeling like I have myself in a corner I can't write my way out of. Fun. But, it is getting better. And so am I. I'm not sure how much writing I will get done this week, being home and focusing on hanging with family/friends, but I am going to try. At the time of the accidnet, eighteen was half finished already. So, maybe it won't be as hard as I think. Sorry for the delay, and the semi-emo rant. I'm feeling truthsome. Peace, Katie
