To offer all and any assistance needed to any other fellow Firefly lovers. I found out about the show after it was cancelled. Fox did such a crappy job of getting the word out :disappointed: I discovered the show on Sci Fi and have become devoted. I would love to see the show come back, although with a few key elements removed during Serenity-I was not pleased :pissed: on the Sci Fi channel.

yay! firefly. i can't believe how many people found out about this show after it got cancelled. honestly, fox did an AWFUL job of promoting this show. then again..they do a pretty awful job with most things. i heard about serenity...somewhere...like..yahoo movies or something. anyway, i decided it was a movie that needed to be watched, and searched blockbusters for THREE MONTHS for it, always..always rented out. finally i got it about two weeks ago; loved it, didn't understand a bit of it, ordered the series and just finished the last episode yesterday. i'm planning to go back over all of them with the commentaries soon. i really hope to see more of the show but 3 years later and nothin doin so i guess i can't get my hopes up. although the movie was a big step. GAWD i'm such a kaylee fan. uh hello, becca and catalina from flash forward and space cases. GAWD i loved space cases. i can't help that i'm a little kid. anyway, someone recommend the best fanfic to me.

Time to write, Cashy money, Magnets?
Saturday, 18 February 2006 07:40:13

Tomorrow is letter day. I got rid of my little Jedi and am just stuck with the mini-munchkin. I've promised myself that I will handwrite four letters tomorrow before my uberbusy week next week starts. Time to get some Firefly/Serenity-ness out there in people's faces. If I write more than four, great. --- Daveshayne: Excellent. I laughed. Honestly, there were chuckles. --- Thursday I was a very bad girl. Very very bad. For my bank account, good for our BDM. I malled and stuff and picked up: Serenity Novel Serenity RPG Serenity Comic #3 (BIG pleasant surprise there!) Firefly Soundtrack Serenity Soundtrack Serenity T-shirt from Hot Topic Not bad for a few hours of shopping. Totally plan on wearing my Serenity Tee on Monday as I visit the Crayola factory. Small disappointment as I couldn't find the Finding Serenity book with Mercedes Lackey. Slightly bigger disappointment that Hot Topic didn't have the Browncoat shirts. Even larger disappointment that not only couldn't I find the TPB, but that I didn't have enough cash on me to try harder. --- Now I just need to find someone to make the Serenity logo on a large magnet that I can pop onto my car door and drive around with it. For everyone to see! Anyone? Anyone?

Doubles all round!

COUNTDOWN: 9 DAYS TO SERENITY R2 DVD LAUNCH Woop! Thought I'd share my joy with the world, as I've just placed a double order for the 2-disc R2&4 version of Serenity. I spotted a post on FFF recommending it, and decided to ship a couple in: one for me, one for my brown-coated buddy. The one-discer is released here in the UK on 27th Feb, but this one 'should' be here before that, and contains all kinds of extra shininess. Roll on! And I picked up a copy of DVD Monthly magazine yesterday. This mag always comes with a free cover disc, and this month's is chock-full of Serenity goodness - interview soundbites with Joss and the whole cast, b-roll footage, five featurettes, international trailer and six clips from the BDM... And it's FREE! UK Browncoats, take note!

Rusty Fingers and Finding my Muse
Saturday, 18 February 2006 16:38:01

Much like love, creativity seems to be fickle mistress. You just never know when something's gonna come out of the blue and smack you upside the head with a pointy stick. Generally tends to be when you're least expecting it, too. Said this before, so I'll try to be brief, but this past month or so has been a pretty exciting time; and I owe no small piece of gratitude to Joss Whedon for giving me Firefly and showing me that it hasn't all been done before. After five years of schooling (well, I'm sure school was in there at some point... most of that time is kind of a blur, really :) I managed to pick up a BFA in Sequential Art from SCAD. I believe that was back in 2001, but I've got some troubles remembering the exact timeline. (Which is another story entirely.) Wasn't a fun time when I graduated, lots of personal stuff; that whole entering the real world angst, death in the family, blah blah blah, etc... Somewhere around that time I sort of ran out of anything to say in my art. Past few years have been pretty good actually, so I'm not complaining. Holding a steady (if crappy) job, get to spend quality time with my siblings, etc. (As the oldest of three, I sorta tend to identify alot with Simon...) But really just stopped drawing and writing all together. Was starting to wonder if I ever would, and around last year was starting to seriously consider a life that didn't include any artistic endeavors. (Aside from a small sideline writing uhm... erotica online under a pen-name... actually good for some pocket money, though...:) I never had any expectations of being the second coming of H.P. Lovecraft or anything, but I'd always sorta wanted to be "in" that sort of group. So... this is getting long, and I haven't even gotten to my point. So, long boring story short, Firefly came along and something just clicked. I came away from the BDM immediately wanting a project to work on. I've put a couple images out here in the Blue Sun Room (really the number one reason I started hanging around here was all the great talent I'd seen.) There's three of those up now, and that's about a third of what I've been drawing. Been real hit or miss, trying to work the rust out of my fingers. Drawing, I've found, ain't quite like riding a bike. Some of the stuff that used to be rather easy... isn't. I've even fallen back onto an old habit I thought I'd kicked of transposing faces of people I know into the people I'm trying to draw. (Especially River... they look nothing alike, but everytime I try a River, she comes out looking like a girl I used to know in high-school...:) Anyways, that's just a really long-winded way of me saying thanks to the people who posted comments on my stuff. Really means alot to me to get some encouragement and constructive criticism from you guys. Got sort of an idea in my head now, trying to do a series of sketches and they'll likely have more of an impact once they're all done. Couldn't shake this image I had of members of the crew (well... probably mostly Kaylee) running around with a camera and taking snapshots of the Big Damn Heroes in their downtime. Probably not the best idea for me to get back into drawing by 1)Trying to draw actual people as opposed to my own characters and 2)Trying to accomplish that from screencaps and other "flat" media. But I figure now that I finally have a 'concept' I'd better run with it while it lasts... I've learned I can't always trust what little creativity I have to be there when I need it. Anyways, that's why Firefly means so much to me personally. It showed me something I was starting to think I had lost for good. So I'll be getting back to rubbing lead all over the gorram place. I'm looking forward to my next day off, so I'll have time to watch the BDM once again, only this time with the commentaries. Also, just got in the mail the other day my issue of the Serenity comic from 258 West Authentic signed by our lovely Jewel Staite. *squee* (What can I say, I always fall for "the cute one".) Is it creepy that the only things hanging on my wall is t

My first week here more or less
Saturday, 18 February 2006 19:52:45

And I've begun maybe to make a few friends. Seem to have made an enemy as well. :disappointed: I supose it evens out. I'm not quite sure exactly when I :censored: in his cornflakes but we seem to have agreed to ignore each other so no harm I suppose. As to new friends may I thank everybody else for the warm welcome, stimulating discusion, and making me feel stupid at hangman. FollowMal you don't seem to have gotten around to issuing me my regulation browncoat - but I see you've been a bit busy lately and I did kind of just jump in without introducing myself and acted like I'd been here all along so no worries. The coat I'm wearing is a kind of brownish color so it'll do untill you're heading that direction. Firefly. Wow. It's like somebody opened up my brain, mapped all of the synaptic connections, and produced a television show aimed specifically at me. Everlasting gratitude for enriching my life goes out to all involved in this project from Joss all the way down to the ladies staffing the catering trailer. (Yes even :stupid: FOX strange to say, without them I wouldn't have gotten even 14 episodes) So my first Blog, something sad, something glad, something obvious. Weather in daveland: really freaking cold.

Recruiting
Saturday, 18 February 2006 23:33:47

I found another player for the role playing group. I don't even really know the guy, I think we met once on a Mensarian meeting. But since then he is kind of tuned in on my website and now read that I want to start the roleplaying group, so he wrote me an email. He does not know Firefly yet, but since he is a fan of Buffy and Angel, I am sure I can recruit him as fellow browncoat quite easily. We decided to do some serious DVD watching in the next days. I finished watching Buffy Season 3 today. Wow! I just loved the Graduation Day episodes. Also, Marnie, the Hitchcock movie, was on German TV today. It is a wonderful film, I had heard a lot about it, but never watched it before. Great camera work, there. And a very handsome young Sean Connery. Definitly worthwhile. Also, I hunted and killed a ghost last night. Okay, I admit, that is the dramatic way of putting it, but hey, life is just so much more fun when you picture the world being full of magic creatures and supernatural powers  I had been hearing strange noises in my bedroom during the last few days. At first I thought it might have been a mouse or another small animal, but it sounded too loud and too random for that. Then I suspected that it was the computer cooling off or maybe the pneumatic spring in my new deskchair or something like that, but I had to cast all those theories overboard. The noises were not too scary, but they were a little disturbing, in fact so disturbing, that I prefered to just draw my blanket up over my ears and fall asleep on them instead of switching the light back on and look for the source. Last night my curiousity finally got the better of me, though, and I crawled out of my bed to confront my "ghost". It turned out the audio speakers on my PC sometimes shortwire, even if the PC is turned off completely, and give short bursts of static noise. Once you draw the power cord, the noise is gone. So, no ghost, no supernatural powers at work, not even a mouse, just a plain stupid technical defect.
