Hi all. Yeah, I know I'm still not around much. Some of it is work and the cleaning thing, but some is I'm kinda in a bit of a funk. I get home and I just kinda become a lump that's only interested in either reading or playing computer games, but the reading's been winning (except as far as my pocketbook's concerned.) I still got the insomnia thing going, too. Reading does seem to help me calm a bit, so I'm not having to hit the Prilosec. My attention span, once I get home from work, is the pits, which is kinda another reason why i haven't been here much. My favorite threads tend to get very long, very quickly and my brain just won't function coherently for that length of time. It's pretty much 'Short Attention Span Theatre' time. Let's see, since I last posted, I did go to jury duty. Parking was astronimical ($10.00) but I got a bit of a surprise. My former roommate (and friend since 2nd grade) was summoned that day as well. We had a nice chat (she's been kinda busy since she remarried) until she was called out. I got called about 40 minutes later, went up stairs and....sat in a black slate--yes, REAL slate--hallway for an hour and a half. Then the bailiff came out and told us the case got settled out of court and herded us back to the main jury room. Watched 'Men in Black' on their TV and when it was over my friend returned. She'd gotten interviewed for a murder trial, but the defense attorney dismissed her. We talked a bit more and I got called again. this time it was to tell me I was free to go home, so I got sprung at 12:30pm. Not too shabby as they's told us there was over 30 cases that day that were going to need juries. I ended up then going to the movies with a different friend and seeing 'the Invisible.' it was an interesting movie, but not what I was expecting from the trailer I'd seen several months back. They'd marketed it as a kind of weird mystery, but what it actually was was a character study. Very weird. I am no longer doing OT at work, but am now thinking of a second job to help with the bills. *sigh* In a effort to get myself being more responsible, I've re-established my fish tank and now have 3 guppies, two neon tetras and two snails. They're all very cute. The tetras want to school and the guppies want sex. It's very amusing to watch. Today (okay, yesterday...Friday in any case) was a busy day. Frankly I think I'd have had an easier day had I gone to work. Today started with going to the Secretary of State office (read: DMV) to get tabs for my non-running car (yeah I really need to get rid of Spike. I think he'll be a donation to a charitable organization...several of them will take non-running vehicles) only to discover I didn't have a current proof of insurance paper for it. Went back to the insurance agent, obtained it, back to the SoS and paid them. Then hit Costco, Target, Meijer and Barnes and Noble. Got home, changed and went over to a friends' home. I'm promised to help rugrat wrangle their child at a baseball game as the child's mom had to go to a work-related meet & greet. So child, daddy (who was also having a b-day that day) and myself went to a college baseball game and watched the home team cream the visitors 12-1. Went home, re-blonded myself (yeah, my hair hasn't been this color naturally since I was 25) and am catching up on emails. *hugs to everyone*

Ok, I have just eaten the most revolting thing I have tasted in ages (there are worse things out there but Ive stayed clear of them for a while) Its saturday and im stuck a rather long distance from any store thats open. I was aware of this when I went shopping for food I could take with me (to campus and university and my desk). But never again will I eat instant pasta in a cup. I hav noodles too, but since I forgot to take any eating utencil with me I went for the pasta, cause its so darn hard to eat noodles with a tea spoon. Tiny tiny tiny spoon only thing I had. Took ages to eat the vile thing. Why do they make this?? (I will have to remember to bring a more noodle friendly eating apparatus tomorrow, as that will be sunday and not a gorram thing besides gasstations is open) Ok enough. Back to work. Steam and frustration out... Work Woman!! Come on write something!!!

I immersed myself into the sci-fi ocean in two big ways this past week. Last Saturday, I attended the sci-fi film fest at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago. Plus, I came across my latest anime obsession, still being released on DVD, "Ergo Proxy".:smile: The sci-fi fest featured the following on the big screen: Serenity, Metropolis, Forbidden Planet, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Mad Max, THX-1138 (the original student short by Lucas while at USC), La Jette (the basis for 12 Monkeys), The Terminator, and Starship Troopers. The whole day rocked. Watching most of the films all together in one day was kind of like being in a dream state. They also played loads of B movie sci-fi previews; Death Race 2000 and Zardoz among others. Hilarious. "Ergo Proxy" is proving to be very cerebral so far. It's intense, dark, edgy, philosophical, and features one seriously hot female who wears blue eye shadow all the time; all those things I prefer in my sci-fi. It's stuffed with references to philosophers, mathemeticians, and characters from classical mythology. The animation is pretty nice. I'm sure all the die-hards could cite something better, but it's still cool - a cross between "BladeRunner", "Outbreak", and maybe "Ghost in the Shell." Comments welcome.

Had to take a trip to the Army Navy Store in Coatesville today to get some odds and ends since the little man went through Cross-over for Cub Scouts. Among the new hat, tie clasp, and belt, I made some of my own uniform purchases. See, it's easier to hide those things from hubby when I do it that way. ;) Shhh! I picked up a plain black tee shirt for around $7. Now, I usually take a 2x, but I've been losing a little bit of weight. I've gotten down to a 1X and I'm content to be there since I've worn those for a very long time. Since I'll be wearing layers, I decided to go with a Large since I want it a little snug because on top of the tee I'll be wearing a vest and coat. I wanted something that'd feel like skin that wouldn't chafe and bunch up while I'm marching. I just tried on the tee and it is snug, just the way I wanted it. When wearing it under the vest and coat, it was absolutely perfect. :) Now I need to wash it once or twice to get rid of the freshly dyed smell and get some fabric softener into it. I have a belt already, but it's more of a tool belt and it needs to be dyed. It also fits my waist, but not my hips where I want my holster to be slung. (I have very generous hips.) I picked up a belt at the same time as the tee and holy cow what a difference. I won't say which SIZE belt I bought, but it was loose enough to sling a little lower than my waist but fit well enough not to fall to the floor. I put the holster from Mircea and the pouch from the COL on it and it felt great. Last night, my kids had been playing at my mom's house and found some sort of strap to one of her bags. It had the hooks on the end and was a good length. I asked to steal it and strapped it to my G36. If I can soak that thing at the same time as the stripe material for my pants, I'll have a perfect new sling. The one that comes with the gun isn't conducive to people with breasts. I swear it. But now I can flip the gun to my back comfortably to keep it out of the way. Now if the dye takes, I'll be set. Today was like a total 76th Uniform euphoria. I'm tempted to go and buy my pants while my good luck holds...

The Bedlam Bards show was fantastic, and they donated $156 from the raffle and show proceeds to the Raleigh "Can't Stop the Serenity" charity shindig. Thank you, Cedric & Hawke!!!
