Class Time
Wednesday, 10 March 2004 00:36:42

Hey! I've been asked to teach a class! Exciting, yes very! Here's the catch, it's suppose to be a cooking class at our local co-op grocery store. Think small, don't think Whole Foods or Wild Oats size. They used to have a small cafe but almost went bankrupt trying to operate it. As a result they sold off all of their equipment, including the stove. That's right, come teach a class but we don't have a way for you to actually apply heat to the food. Isn't it Alton Brown who says, "Food + heat = cooking?" That being said, I'd still like to figure out a way to do something. If it weren't for this co-op there would be no place to buy certain standard ingredients. We have an Albertson's and a Wal-Mart (but I detest them and try not to shop there.) In the last couple of years two major grocery stores have left our town. So far I'm thinking maybe a cold appetizer class or a class on salads. You know, mix your greens, vary your dressing, add a cold protein, that sort of thing. Alright, I've got bread dough that has to go to the next stage. More latter. Be well! _____________________________________ I'm not even suppose to be here today!

Some Good News and Some Bad News
Wednesday, 10 March 2004 04:14:24

So which do you want first? Bad News first, I think. That way we can temper it with the Good News. The Bad News is plainly this: Some people are just plain inconsiderate AND just plain stupid. This weekend I was just idly checking up on the conversation threads and I came across one called Best Death Scene Ever or something like that. Now it doesn't tell you what catagory the thread is in, and so off go thinking that it will be people talking about who had a better death, Darth Vader or Obi-Wan Kenobi or something along those lines. Was I wrong to assume such as thing? Was I really? NO GORRAM WAY!! But instead what I ended up getting was utterly and completely spoilled for a show that I will not even name so as to not even give the hint of spoiling you if you don't already know. After the stomping and swearing and exclamations of "who the HELL does that?!?!" I scrolled down...lo and behold someone had reminded the author of the post that we have a rather shiny thing called a spoiler option so that you don't do to people EXACTLY what they did to me. Wouldn't you think that after being reminded that they might have been spoiling that episode for people and that there is a spoiler feature that they would go back and edit their post to use it? You would wouldn't you. Well they certainly didn't. At this point its necessary to admit that I'm not a nice person, and I don't like spoilers. I posted a nasty little message watered down by my tree-hugging, pacifist (but also loving and ultimately rational) fiance, whom I love but who doesn't let me say half the mean things I want to most of the time, utilising the spoiler option. Childish? Yes. Harsh? Yes. Satisfying? Hell Yeah! The Good News is plainly this: My website went through some major changes and additions this weekend. Uploaded more of my stories, as well as new sections for Firefly and Author's Notes. We also fixed the font and line spacing so now you can read it without your magnifying glass. So hurray for easy reading and 4, count 'em, 4 newly uploaded Firefly stories (and lovely Firefly pics too)! And just in case you were wondering, I clearly label my spoilers and in one part even use a 'highlight to read spoiler' thingy. Its really not that hard, I promise. Anyway check it out, have a good day, and don't bloody well spoil things for people!

Of Assignments and Uru
Wednesday, 10 March 2004 11:58:17

Id like to start off by giving a big thank you to everyone who passed along advice and kind words after the incident I had a few days ago. It has been taken care of and I'll leave it at that. In other better news (depending on how you want to look at it.) I got the assignments back from my teaching gig. And well, (nervous laughter)... Yeah. A good deal of them were good and original and all but Im not quite registering how a lot of these people got into a second and third year creative writing class.Mostly because those that werent pretty good were written by people with apparently no grasp of the english language whatsoever. I shouldnt say things like that though, its [i] "mean" [i]. Finally I come to the best news since the announcment of Serenity: The anouncment of a free downloadable expansion pack for Uru: Ages Beyond Myst. Dont care? Well I do and Im excited about it, ha ha. And here I was worried that they were going to terminate the project after the online portion got canceled. That be all for today. Thanks again and, good day.
