My alias refers to Shepherd Book, of course, but it actually comes from my favourite book that didn't make it into the Good Book - "The Shepherd of Hermas".

The best translation into English is called:
"Revelations to the Shepherd of Hermas:
A Book of Spiritual Visions"
by Hermas (translated by Robert Van De Weyer).

In general, I have an interest in non-canonical Jewish and Christian writings as well as the poetry of the Sufi saint Mevlana Rumi. My favourite non-canonical quote is very shiny and comes from the Gospel of Mary Magdalene (8:20-23):

20) They asked the soul, Whence do you come slayer of men, or where are you going, conqueror of space?

21) The soul answered and said, What binds me has been slain, and what turns me about has been overcome,

22) and my desire has been ended, and ignorance has died.
