While watching the season 7 episode "First Date" on DVD, I noticed a small edit that was made, apparently in the interest of continuity. When the episode was first broadcast, I remember a lengthy shot of Principal Wood looking at Spike in the rearview mirror while driving, which obviously wouldn't be possible since Spike has no reflection. On the DVD, this scene cuts just before Wood glances up at the mirror. (You can just see him start to anticipate the look.)
I personally don't mind this, as it is a minor cut and is actually a fix of a production mistake. Has anyone else noticed anything like this on other episodes?

It is good that they took it out, but at the same time, you'd figure that Principal Wood, at some point in the car ride, would have looked in the rearview mirror and saw Spike not there.
But it wasn't until he vamped out fighting Ashanti that the realization dawned on him.

How the heck this stuff falls through the cracks is beyond me. All of those actors know the rules, so they should say something...but the writers really screwed up here. You might as well have Spike walking around during the day while splashing holy water on his face. NOT COOL! :) *rant over*

I always thought Wood was looking in the mirror because he noticed Spike wasn't there. He had a very intense look on his face.

How dare they make mistakes on OUR show! ;)

This is pure conjecture, but I kind of thought they got around the whole no reflection thing by Spike's positioning. I can't check right now since my DVDs are currently being borrowed, but I thought Spike was sitting to the side and kind of hunkered down (basically pouting since Buffy's on a date). So, him not being in the rear-view mirror wouldn't seem too weird to Principal Wood. I'm not sure, though.

I agree w/Workerofevil (cute name BTW)
I thought JM was aware of the problem and was staying out of the line of view of a rear view
(when I'm driving I always make sure people sit away from the rear view)
BUT I think that DB Woodside may have made a mistake orwasn't aware of the fact that you can't see Vampires in a mirror....
the director should have seen how it looked, but most people online agreed that it was messed up.
Now I have to go rewatch the episode to see if I notice the re-cut!
(I love having excuses to rewatch my DVDs!)

You need an excuse to watch your DVDs? Weirdo :)
I watch them coz they're there :)
When I think of an interesting signature you'll be the first to know.
