I'm surprised there's not an inflation thread yet

Just got that first power bill...

I've mentioned in other threads that my heat has been at 58 since it was turned on. That's about 6-7 degrees less than I've had it the last two years.

According to the 13 month graph the power company provides, I used 28% less Therms this month than I did last year, despite the fact the average temperature has been 3 degrees lower this year than at the same time last year.

My bill was still $9 more than last year, or roughly 11% higher.

It won't effect me all that much because "roughing it" is a skill I've taken decades to cultivate. I'll be wearing extra clothes indoors all winter long and only be paying around 25% of the increase that most people will be paying.

It's just one huge nagging factor that's going to be on millions of American's minds the next 4 months while seeing the higher prices on everything else in Biden*'s America.

I have more control over natural gas prices than any President in history. And the European Union has more control than I do:

Blue line: Global price of Natural Gas, US Henry Hub Gas
Red line: U.S. Natural Gas Liquid Composite Price

Why is the price of natural gas rising in the US?
Because the EU is willing to pay a high price.

Trumptards will next complain about gasoline prices, but that is not under the control of the Federal government:

US Regular All Formulations Gasoline Price

Food prices bothering the Trumptards? Federal government doesn't control that:

We did have a few 'Gasoline' threads at fireflyfans, 'Dollar Collpase' threads, GDP and trade threads, industry and bitcoin discussion, also 'Jobless' threads, there was a Recession thread, Taxes discussion and Bailout and Stimulus talk ... I'm not sure if there is an inflation thread if there is one I will see if I can bump it.

I don't think we will be in just 'inflation'

More like STAGFLATION

In economics, the talk of stagflation comes or recession-inflation is a situation in which the inflation rate is still high, yet the economic growth rate slows, and unemployment remains steadily high. The 'stagflation' term is generally attributed to a British politician who talked of the idea during the recession of the 60s and 1970s. Inflation rose in the 1960s and 1970s, British were kind of old and confused policy makers who failed to recognise the primary role of element that could attack the economy and weaken it even more.

"Stagflation" is not how the economy works, Jayneztown. Here is the simplified version of how the American economy works:

Blue line is inflation rate
Red line is GDP percent change

When the Blue line is above the Red line the people who are setting prices have set them higher than the economy is growing. That is how price setters slowly transfer to themselves, year after year, the wealth of America from those paying the prices.

Second likes to pretend he has half a brain.

If Trump told OPEC not to pull any shit, they'd listen to him.

When Biden begs OPEC to lower gas prices they say Fuck Joe Biden.

It's also the "green" policies the US and the EU have dived headfirst into that are the reason we have zero reserves right now.

EU is "willing" to pay those high prices because they fucked themselves and if they don't pay them then they will all freeze to death over the winter.

Food goes up along with everything else when everything else goes up in price. Especially gas, which everybody needs to pay for and which drives the costs of everything else up.

Nobody is claiming that brain-dead Biden* is sitting there in the Oval Office and raising all of the prices of everything himself. It's the horrible policies that Democrats are passing that are making everything rise.

And seriously. Fix the fucking shipping problem already. What the literal fuck.

You're a fucking idiot, Second.

Shipping is an excellent example of how the people who set prices are transferring wealth away from the people who pay the prices.

From the Wall St Journal: The average price world-wide to ship a 40-foot container has more than quadrupled from a year ago, to $8,399 as of July 1, according to a global pricing index by London-based Drewry Shipping Consultants Ltd. The measure has surged 53.5% since the first week of May.

Listed prices to ship from China to major ports in Europe and the U.S. West Coast are closer to $12,000 a container, by Drewry’s measure, and some companies say they are being charged $20,000 for last-minute agreements to get goods onto outbound vessels.

Zhu Guojin, a consultant at logistics firm Jizhi Supply Chain Service Yiwu Co., said last month that most of the company’s clients, including Amazon.com Inc. vendors and some American importers, are so desperate for the goods that they are paying up.

“Last year, many clients delayed shipping in the hope that the cost could come down. But that’s no longer the case,” said Mr. Zhu. “Most do not seem to care about prices anymore.” The ship owners can then price gouge their customers.

6ix, the owners of ships have raised their prices but it doesn't cost any more to operate the ships. Why would any ship owner want to fix the shipping problem, which is making them rich? The ship owners will do whatever they can to extend the problem at ports for as long as they can. That is how Capitalism works the best for the owners!

The number of containers moving through LA has dropped slightly, but since price per container is 4 times higher, everything is great for the container ship owners. https://www.portoflosangeles.org/business/statistics/container-statist
