I'm ashamed of this place

I've been encouraging Jennifer to come here, to meet the good people who sent me to the Gulf and to engage in some spirited debates. But after two weeks mostly away, I'm probably going to ask her not to come after all. This place is almost nothing but vitriol and childish back-and-forths of the very worst kind.
The sad thing is, some of the very people who are the ugliest would find her like them in many of her views. She's pro-gun, believes welfare should be seriously reformed, is an atheist, hates Obama and the way he's "tried" to fix things, is hard-core on treatment of children and the education system (you’d LOVE her, Frem, you really would!), is for states’ rights and many things that put her at odds with my stands. We talked for two hours or more the last night I was there, but we were able to DISCUSS and DEBATE our differences and still remain friends. She is about as far from a “liberal” as you can get, and I thought how much fun she would have here exchanging views with other Browncoats, which she is enthusiastically.
But after reading the past day or so I’ve been back, I think RWE is a disgrace to Browncoats everywhere. Not only would it be viewed with disgust by all but one of the characters on Firefly, I believe the same would be true of the cast who portrayed them, and Joss as well. His views may be controversial to some, but I couldn’t imagine him EVER sinking to the depths of what I read on RWE every day. He’d no doubt take it with equanimity given it’s the internet, but it’s nonetheless a terrible reflection of what we all supposedly respect and admire about him and Firefly.
I’m now on the growing list of those who will come here less, which I’m sure will please the very people who have reduced this forum to what it has become. If it keeps up, they will be the only ones talking to themselves, which is probably what they’re aiming for. I’m afraid they’ll find it not to THEIR liking, either, if they manage it. I accept it's always been vitriolic, but now it's little more than playground name calling of the kind that you wouldn't find on ANY actual playground.
And I put you, Mike, in the same category as them. While SOMEWHAT less “gutterally” inclined, you foster the worst RWE has to offer and only serve to encourage the kind of ugliness which has driven others away and is driving me away. I don’t want Jennifer to come here; I’m ashamed of what she’d find and I respect her too much to have her know how low supposed Browncoats can sink. All in all, it’s a shame, she'd be a great addition to what this forum is supposed to be about.
Go for it trolls; respond in ways that illustrate what I’m saying.

I chose to come here and at that time, it wasn't like this. The amount of honest debate far outweighed the few reprehensible posters. I can go where I choose and leave when I choose, just like anyone else. My being here or not in no way changes the fact that what I'm saying is true.

Well, if you want a happy "Real World Event", the Possum Weeber actually started followin me, and he was outside my apt last night staring at me when I came back from rounds - and when I took a pic at range with my flashlight, the lil bastich starts muggin for the camera!

Niki,
Another view of this is that this place represents in its' own way the realities and passions felt by people all over the county. If it occasionally gets nasty, then I believe it's just a sign of the times and not necessarily a terrible thing. But the endless back and forth insults with profanity and vulgarity between some here does eventually erode the place to a small handful of posters. You should keep posting topics because they're usually interesting or annoying for me.
