Okay, the first was the best, however, what 'Planet of the Apes' films did you enjoy, and why?

The first was a sheer masterpiece of science fiction and social commentary. Period.
Beneath was a worthy continuation of social & religious satire, as well as being a nightmare put to film. A truly O.M.G. ending, making it one of the few major films EVER to flip the bird to EVERYTHING!!! No where near as good as the original, but a must-see in its own right IMO.
Escape boasted a brilliant musical score by Jerry Goldsmith, and it had a few good moments, but basically it was a countdown to an inevitable downer ending. Back in the day it made me cry, but I suspect audiences today would just be frustrated & angry at its obviousness (Plus: a totally ridiculous story for how the apes got to Earth of the past).
Conquest used a hammer to make its point. It made the mini-series "Roots" seem subtle. Interesting for its visual use of Century City in California as a location, and for Ricardo Montalban as a supporting player, it was, nevertheless, merely a bland conduit to the next step in making our planet run towards the future presented in the first film.
Battle presented some new interesting characters (Virgil, played by Paul Williams, Aldo, played by Claude Akins, and, holy crap, The Lawgiver played by John Huston!!), as well as the idea that the timeline might have been significantly changed so that the future in the first film may never be fully realized. Low in budget, yet high in concept, this is my favourite film since Beneath. And it definitely has a better ending, in terms of humanity (simianity-?) & positivity.
So, any peeps have opinions on these classic flicks?

You seriously applying the term classic to all of them? Only the first deserves that designation.

Model T's are classic.
Coke Classic is classic.
Maybe I just don't understand the term, eh?

A classic mistake.
Classic cheese.
A classic misinterpretation.
Classic perfection.
The Apes movies are a CLASSIC example of movies that had sequels that were not as imaginative or well-financed or astounding as the original.
That's my meaning here.

Escape & Conquest, while certainly creative for their time, suffered lazy writing from a science perspective.
Conquest was the most violent, man-to-ape, that's for sure.
