I had to share this ...my cat is having an attention seeking day. after I ignored his attempts to engage with me he positioned himself in front of our back door so that anyone going out has to step over him whereupon he grabs their legs. Just overheard my mother: "can I come outside please?" followed by scuffling and "theo let go I haven't time for this" then as she came back in " can I come inside now?" All done with the cute Sicilian accent she says she doesn't have...now my dad's gone out and given him a pat....I just looked out my window and Theo's turned to me with his paws under his chin and meowed...I'd better go out and play.

Boris: I love it! Both of mine will do that kind of stuff. Rodger has decided that he's so attention-starved that he will actually grab a corner of a rug and pull it over on himself, and then PET HIMSELF WITH IT, as if the petting I was already giving him just wasn't enough.
And if I put my hand near his head as if to pet him, he'll grab my hand and pull it the rest of the way to his head, MAKING me pet him.
Meanwhile, Peedie will stalk me around the house and grab at my hands anytime I walk by - he'll grab me from the bed, the couch, the chairs, the desk, the window ledge, anywhere he can get a grab at my hands as I go by. And he doesn't mind using his claws to punctuate the point!

Mostly true... Cats are good for those people who have become sooo accustomed to being ignored by the people in their lives that they need it out of their pets too.
However I add (as if you didn't know) they have that psychotic quirky cuteness, so cute in fact that they make someone who is freakishly allergic to cats reach out and touch one and then she accidently touched her eye and it basically exploded in one of those horrid red bloody looking eye stains for two weeks and made the certain someone -one guess who- want to physically remove her eyeball to scratch it!!
Damn their cuteness!
However, I should add, if I could logistically own a white tiger I would do it in a heartbeat...We have a tiger in our local pathetic Zoo and after a decade or so in a tiny area I can say IT...STILL...PACES- and it *** looks*** at you and it still wonders what YOU taste like... Marvelous creatures...

OMG Kwicko,your cats sound like fun. I'm saddened when people I know who have cats say they just lie around and behave...it's so un-cat-like. Theo sticks his head/neck out and grabs our hands for a pat too. sometimes he'll scratch his chin to demonstrate what he wants...so endearing. he also attacks rugs and then drags them round, or shoots underneath them and pokes his paws/head out. He does some things that baffle us. For instance my parents have a plastic stool in their bathroom that he's been in love with since he was a kitten. He hugs it rubs it plays with it...so damn weird and funny to watch. Lately he has taken to sitting at our feet grabbing them and licking them. He gets very upset if we don't let him.

I have always had plenty of friends, am not often ignored by people, and love cats. Cats may not save lives in the same way dogs do, but I know of situations about them warning people re: fires and intruders etc. A friends grandparents once rescued an injured young ferral cat... When I first met him I assumed he'd be small and cute as they'd named him Fluffy. Nanna went to get him and was panting when she got back to us holding her feline buddy. He was black steely muscled brute with one white paw and he was the size of a puma! they would throw old car tyres for him to play with. One night two guys broke into their house to rob them and Fluffy took them both out. During the day their neighbours would leave their pets, a small Maltese cross and a white kitten alone all day with no shade or food. Fluffy would jump over the fence every day and gently jump back over with them and put them in the shade/share his food. At the end of the day he would take them back home. Cats have helped countless numbers of autistic people become more social. I'm only on the mild end of the spectrum but before we had our first cat I was unable to show warmth and affection to people, and I was freaked about people touching me. That all changed after a couple of years with our first cat. Not all cats are egocentric either.
