Well it is supposed tio be 80 out and sunny today. While I get to sit in my office and be bored out of my mind the last rays of summer are going to be shining down. Damnit!

Took lots of photos Sunday evening, wandering around the regional park that - who knew - sits right outside my balcony. Came to the conclusion that this year's Fall colours are unnatural. XD

Yeah well the damn things made me mad this weekend. Leaves were still mostly green when I scampered up the roof on Saturday to sweep it and clean out the gutters. By Sunday they were falling like rain and mostly orange and yellow. Seriously! At one point the russling they were making as they dropped made me think that it had started to rain.

Saturday night sucked! Felt like doin' somethin' so when I called to see if the power washer was still at my parent's house I talked to my brother and we were going to go and shoot pool for a while. Got to my parent's and he bailed on me. So then I figured I would just call... er.... yea.... nobody cuz I gotz no friends who live around here anymore. Reality and the fact that I thought that me and teh little bro were going out led to some insomnia.

I popped into Haven for a bit (sorry Zero et all I fell asleep to the football game) but still kinda a bumming reality check.

It's really easy to make and it is nicely spicy. I use the medium heat salsa, but you can go hotter or add jalepenos :)

In three words: Work is shit.
Complete and total shit. Every time I start to feel comfortable again at work and start to feel that things are going okay, something happens to smack me back down into a demoralized, hate-filled depression. The most recent event just floored me...

There's a girl who has been out of college and working here for one full year. So this is her first actual job as an engineer. She also did a very short term internship with my boss & my boss's boss at a different company. Generally speaking, though, internships are pretty irrelevant in this field. But after one year's work experience, she gets promoted to Senior R&D Engineer. Not only is that unheard of in this field, not only is it highly inappropriate, but it's also a huge insult to experienced engineers everywhere.

Why should I care?

Because I have 10.5 years' experience as an R&D Engineer in this industry. 10.5 YEARS. And I've been at this company for almost half of that. But I have no title, and I'm never even considered for promotion. On top of that, my annual review is 5.5 months late and no one seems to care. To twist the knife just a bit more, I'm actually more qualified and have more experience than the Principle Engineer candidates they're currently looking for to fill a couple more R&D Engineering positions.

But, you see, I'm not one of the BFFs, so I don't get any consideration. This girl, my boss, and boss's boss all worked together and are just friendly as can be with one another. My boss will spend hours at a time talking in her office with this girl, but if boss says more than two words to me in any given month, I'd consider myself lucky. And that part isn't just me; boss has two other direct reports, and she doesn't talk with them, either. One of them is also about 3 months late for his review.

My crime is that I've been here longer than they have, which seems to somehow indicate that all of my education and experience is worthless. An education, by the way, that is the exact same one as this girl and my boss; we all went to the same university and got the same degrees in the same field of study.

Out of the past 4 annual reviews I've had, only one was less than fantastic - and by that I mean the other reviewers gave me the highest marks in just about everything - and that was because the toady dick they hired was there for a whole month before he had to give me my review. Not exactly a sufficient amount of time upon which to assess someone's performance.

I'm asbolutely frustrated and furious over this, and am going to talk with HR today at 1pm. This particular HR person is someone I've known since I first started working in this industry; she's been at all of the same companies as me. Odd, but it's a surprisingly small community. Anyway, I trust her to give it to me straight, but I'm not expecting her to say anything good. And if it ends up being really bad, this could be my last day.

So... there you have it......... I'm going to go back to lurking now.

Holy shit.. That is incredible. I can't believe a company would be so pathetic.. oh wait I can. The old boys or BFF network is , in my opinion, the primary reason why most industries in America fail. Because everyone is so into " networking" and hiring, promotion, and idea consideration is based solely on who you know and not your qualifications and abilities means that a ton of good ideas and a lot of progress is lost... I listen to different people on here and other places who are tons more qualified and have a much better understanding of what should happen get pushed aside for the boss's pet... and then we're all surprised when the company fails? Not really

HK I will happily fly there and set them on fire for you, but sadly I don't think it'd help as they are simply to stupid to have any real understanding... but all the same offer's on the table HUGS

Update...

HR basically said nothing is going to improve or change; yes it's highly unusual for someone with 1 year's work experience to be promoted to senior level but it's not about personal qualifications or abilities, it's about other people's perceptions of you, so if your boss doesn't perceive you at all, there's nothing you can do about it; have you thought about another job?

Granted, this is coming from someone who thinks they may not be employed here after next week... but, still....

see HK's situation kind of represents why I frequently despair of the human race, it really shouldn't be that hard but people suck at management, I love my boss but he's somewhat hopeless whenever a situation requires a spine and don't get me started on my other half's pathetic team at her school.

And I also don't understand this one- why do people drink shit like Gatoraid and Poweraid and all that crap???
