You have to understand for eight years, EIGHT!, we’ve had to listen to Bush-hating Democrat clowns repeat the same ideologically driven jokes over and over and over and over and then listen to them laugh hysterically at their own jokes like some idiot in a helmet. Quite a few of them, much of the Clinton material had to with marital infidelity, Hillary and promiscuity, not just Lewinsky. But this was mostly light stuff, and it’s not like it wasn’t based on a completely true nature. Clinton was a fratboy - there was no doubt he loved to play. The difference is that the Bush-hater jokes aren’t really jokes at all, but disguised attempts at libel, political rhetoric or outright hatred. It’s one thing to make fun of a man for promiscuity who is repeatedly caught in marital infidelity - it’s something completely different to accuse a man of being a murderer, a terrorist or a fascist because you don’t agree with a political policy.

My mind won’t change. I said the same thing about Clinton. You know some people were calling Clinton a terrorist - largely over Bosnia. Well PR.... when you put it that way, how can I disagree. I'm very passionate about all of what you said. This is why I'm often very good on a one on one live debate (I don't mean televised or nothing.. lol. Just two people over drinks or coffee or whatever).

There is plenty of middle ground everywhere and in every issue. Most of us really aren't so different. This goes back to why I think the 2 party system is a sham. There is never two answers to any question. There is no all encompassing West and East, or Right and Wrong, or Republican or Democrat.

To label ourselves one or the other is to actively proclaim to everyone on the other "side" that you don't agree anything they stand for, when in reality, I'm sure there is a lot of things that the Democratic Party does that you don't like and at the same time there are many things about the Republicans that you like, if you took the chance to see what their real values are instead of living in a "one or the other" world where they have to be wrong on every issue becuase they are THEM and you are US.

This goes 10fold for Aurap and Finn, and Rue and Cantakethesky, and Frem and me. Yeah... even us. I know that he does a much much much much better job of it, but I tend to lose it often and shut people out. The truth is, every single regular poster in here could take the time to get to know the other side a bit more and learn some understanding.

When you step out of the box for a minute it's truly sad to see not only the behavior of everyone around you, but of yourself as well... This two party system has a lot of people at each other's throats.

People have to sacrafice up to 49% of their opinions or ideals or beliefs in order to align themselves with somebody who shares at least 51% of their own.

Think about it.....

I could ramble on in this vane for ever, but I'll just leave it at I like your campaign slogan and I think that when we take the oppurtunity to step in the middle and meet and share our own ideas under the cover of the night sky or high in the clouds away from the influence of a two party system, we'll find that we do a hell of a lot more than agree on 51% of everything

That bein why I never align myself with any particular party - I want more than 51% out of someone if imma place that level of power and authority in their hands.

The old school Republican values of smaller government is about the only thing I can get behind. However, I haven't seen a lot of evidence of that in the modern Republican party. However, that same political correctness that makes me think they're too cautious on certain issues is the same thing that allows me to wear a pentacle in the open, love another woman if I want to, and go to Planned Parenthood, all pretty much legally. So, I had to measure those pros and cons, and I chose my party. And I registered as a Democrat rather than Independent because Independents can't take part in the primaries, where a great many decisions are made. So, there's that too. And, whatever you may think about whether he's telling the truth or not, I agree with the black guy on about 80% of policies and ideals, which is a great deal more than I can say for any other candidate, ever, in any context. I'm not voting for him because he's not a white guy, it's because I agree with him. If it were only about race and/or gender to me, I'd take the route a lot of women have taken and vote for the woman. But I don't agree with the woman, so I didn't.
I don't think ill of you as a person, though I have felt like I was running into a brick wall a few times when I've talked to you, so I appreciate the lack of arguing this time.

Sorry to interrupt the real world with a Firefly moment, but this conversation y'all are having goes right to an idea I had about getting the series back. Seriously. Crazy, yes, but serious/crazy.

Here's the thing: Firefly could, in a lot of ways, be considered the quintessential conservative sci-fi. It's anti-government, free market, and fist fight diplomacy. Not to mention it's overtly old-timey. Sure, they hang out with whores, but so did Jesus.

BUT, Firefly was born into the freshly post-9/11 era. The conservatives were the Alliance, and FOX was pretty much Blue Sun. An anti-government rebel yell and misbehavin' in general weren't exactly on message. I'm sure FOX's real reasons were more specific and mundane ($$$), but again, a rabble-rousing show wasn't exactly on message.

Now, onto election 2008.

If McCain wins, we're where we were.

If a democrat wins, THEY become the Alliance. Suddenly FOX's tune will be a bit different. Not holding the purse strings anymore, they'll sudden have a born-again moment about small government, raising heck, and making an unregulated buck.

Should that come to pass, here's the plan:

We talk up a red-streak (I'm a liberal). Our more conservative Browncoats go on the PR-offense , making the anti-Alliance case to FOX by singing up the red meat aspects of Firefly (and we Blue-ish types be all quiet like or maybe even blow some conservative smoke).

This property will look a lot more attractive to a FOX living on the outside facing consterning and unfriendly-like government regulation.

It's a thought.

What I'm saying is vote blue, talk red. :)
