Ian Turner, deputy head warden, was taking photos for a brochure when he went to get another camera. Not thinking that a Kalahari Desert-dwelling mammal could work an advanced piece of digital equipment, he left the first camera with the meerkats.

He returned to find a furry David Bailey merrily putting together a family album of three snaps of the eight-strong meerkat mob.

That's so cool! I may well use that as a little aside in my Animal Behaviour teaching this year. We are bringing in a troop of meerkats to the college! Hope they're as cute as these guys!

They're coming to stay! We're adding Meerkat cuddling to the syllabus! We're also applying for a dangerous wild animal license which has intriguing possibilities!

Ok, so how does a long haired drummer get to visit meerkats cause I've thought they were cool since I saw the famous bbc documentary about them when I was like eight.

Dangerous wild animals? What counts as wild and danerous, wild boar, lions, black mambas? Could be a discipline tool, right you've stepped out of line one too many times young man, that's right, go milk the mamba for venom.

When they arrive I'll let you know. I'd be happy to sneak you in on a weekend to have a play!

I already shamelessly use the tarantulas to scare and humiliate the tough guys!

You do know that I cannot cope with spiders at all, I mean like at all! I try to be curious and they are very cool and clever and all of that but they have to be so a very long way away from me!

Somewhere on the interwebs someone has saved a frame of the promo for this season of Meerkat Manor. They are posed like regular TV stars -- Sopranos or somebody. It's hilarious and I didn't save it OR the link!
(I know, I knooooooooow, BAD FloralBunny, BAD!!)
I promise if I find it before somebody else does, I'll ship a copy to Penguin or post a URL or something. Meerkat fans should not miss it.
