What planet was Jayne born or raised on? Need that for a new fanfic. Help!

More Jayne-ish questions:

1. Does his ma have a name?
2. His pa?
3. How many siblings, boys or girls?
4. What town did he live in on the home planet?
5. Why in the gorram hell was he named Jayne in the first place? Anybody know the answers to these freakin' questions?

My 2nd-ever fanfic awaits the info before I can get to it. I swear to you that I HAVE watched the entire season on t.v. and on my DVD series (as well as the BDM twice) but I can't parse the answer to these niggling questions. Thanks for the help, if you have it to give.

We don't know much about Jayne, and most of what we know is from the episode "The Message". We know his mother is still alive, and knits. He probably has a sibling named Maddie or Mattie, who is ill and still close to the family, maybe still a child.

The general consensus seems to be that Jayne grew up in a Rim world frontier town, probably similar to the one we see a bit of in "Safe". He most likely was raised in a church-going household, judging by how he said grace in the pilot.

As for the name, there are other names in the series like "Rance" that appear to be evolutions or corruptions of current names. Jayne may be a future version of "James".
