I read an extremely interesting article by Pepe Escobar on the Saudi dream to get nukes. Pepe Escobar is a roving reporter for the Asia Times. I find he's a little too in love with putting down all of the gosspy details on various political intrigues; on the other hand, he comes up with some really insightful analyses (For example, his reference to the term "Pipelineistan" to indicate the struggle of the west to obtain a reliable pipeline route from the Caspian Sea gas fields to Europe, to supplant Russian natgas. Thinking in those terms explains a lot of otherwise seemingly-inexplicable events.)
I have been posting for over a year by now that the Saudis are driving much of the "terrorist" activity that we have been conditioned to be so afraid of. Al Qaida, al Nusra, the Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS, and the various offshoots and splinter groups of the above didn't just grow spontaneously from some maniacal religious fervor. They were funded, educated, supported, armed, nurtured, etc etc. for decades (not years, decades) by Saudi Arabia.
In fact, I read another article about how AFTER their work in Afghanistan chasing out the Soviets, many "Afghan Arabs" were sent over to Azerbaijan to stir up trouble there, and in that region that managed to wind up Chechen terrorists (the kind that killed 200 children in a school in Beslan). And indeed, I read ANOTHER story that the USA's "anti-ISIS" bombing is pretty nominal - that the USA has done fewer bombing runs in nine months than Israel did in THREE WEEKS of hitting Palestinians. But those are stories for another time, because this one is far more interesting:

So guess what the terminally paranoid House of Saud is up to: Lay their hands on a nuclear bomb to counteract the non-existent “Iranian bomb”, which Tehran, via Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, has consistently abhorred as un-Islamic, and wouldn’t have it anyway because of stringent inspections bound to be part of the final nuclear deal.
The proverbial “former Pentagon official” has leaked to a Rupert Murdoch paper that the House of Saud is bound to buy a ready-made nuclear bomb from Pakistan. The choice of media already offers a clue; Prince Alwaleed bin Talal is one of News Corporation’s leading shareholders.
The “why now?” concerning the leak is pretty obvious. Yet the whodunit is hazier territory.
Meanwhile, adding fuel to the jihadi fire, as the Wahhabis in Riyadh dream of going — literally — nuclear their faith brothers across “Syraq” are going figuratively nuclear, adding victory after victory on the ground; from the assault on Palmyra, the Silk Road-era jewel of the desert in Syria, to the fall of Ramadi in the former “triangle of death” in Iraq.
But IMHO if Saudi Arabia were to get a nuclear bomb from anyone, it might be Israel.

I saw this article elsewhere, but I wanted to highlight this part, because it struck me as being extremely instructive.
Whether or not you agree with the subsequent analysis, this demonstrates how a partisan administration (any administration), and a complicit MSM press (with global echoes), work together to stampede an unthinking and incurious - some might say propagandized - public. A public that, I might add, has an active dislike of facts and evidence, that prefers to react emotionally to sound bites that support beliefs.
The US government launches a meme in the media - LOSER IRAQIS! The MSM - as always - doesn't do any independent fact-checking, and instead faithfully parrots the government's message to the masses. And the masses accept what they're told because the government said-so. The slightly curious think that because the message is being echoed across the media-scape, that it's credible. After all, everyone says so.
But the countervailing facts about the Iraqi army's efforts AND SUCCESSES that would provide a more complete picture to the claims made about that army are nowhere to be found in the government's message or the MSM echoes.
Signy's source points to an Iraqi army that's both capable and motivated.
So, what happened? Now, neither source - the US government via Carter, nor Signy's author - engage in a specific tactical assessment of how Ramadi fell. And a SPECIFIC analysis of events - with evidence - would clear up the question of where the problem lay.
But Signy's author does point up another fact not found in the MSM, and that's the shocking lack of US air support.
And that fact leads to questions about the US's real goals.
So here we have it. Evidence of US government duplicity vis a vis its citizens. Evidence of MSM complicity. Important facts withheld. And vital questions unasked.

Since Saudi Arabia is busy propping up al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in Yemen, and we prop up Saudi Arabia, it stands to reason that (despite our nominal and rather desultory droning of Yemen) we support AQAP too.

The devastated compound was in the Tahrir area in downtown Sanaa.
