'Cause all of those photos that KIKI found were just abberations from the REAL definition, possibly originated by Charles Lynch, whose portraiture and name are forever and indelibly linked with the word itself. [/sarcasm]

First of all, RAPPY, you took a POSSIBLE WORD ORIGIN, and mixed it up with the current definition. It's a common dodge, when a word means something that you don't want it to mean, but the reality is that many words change their meaning over a couple hundred years, and in current lingo no longer mean what they meant "back then". During the times of the American South, "lynching" meant hanging - whether for blacks or whites. Most commonly, blacks.

Furthermore, even the origin (which you cite) is a weak one. Notice the word obscure, and the fact that two people (not one) are listed as the possible/ likely originators.

Quote:

The origins of the word lynch are obscure, but likely originates during the American revolution. The term originates from the phrase "Lynch Law", a term for a punishment without trial. Two Americans during this era are generally credited for the phrase: Charles Lynch and William Lynch, who both lived in Virginia in the 1780s. Charles Lynch has the better claim, as he was known to have used the term in 1782, while William Lynch isn't known to have used the term until much later. There is no evidence that death was imposed as a punishment by either of the two men.

Nice try, but no joy. The word means what it means.

I suppose you probably also think that niggardly is a racist term, right?
And "thug" is a black criminal?
Illiterate much?

Sig - a lynch mob refers to any mob action where a group takes the law into their own hands.

But as we saw in TRASH, how with Chinese, there are difference nuances with the same word, depending on context, the meaning can and does vary. Sure, in one light, it CAN be used to describe events as you describe, but it's not limited to ONLY that definition.

You WANT it to means specifically one thing and one thing only because it helps you project your narrative.

I get that. I really do.

When the Left can't win a debate, they change the rules. They'll change the definition of words, and then declare themselves the winner.

It's a sad, sad M.O. which has been tried, over and over.

HAHAHAHA!!

No, on both counts.

I noticed that you PRESUMED I misunderstood those words, and so you presumed I was "illiterate". Turns out, you're wrong.

So, I'm not illiterate but, you OTOH... Strawmanning much? (And I don't have to "presume" that you did because you offered a fine example, right here.

Sheesh.

There is a difference between the word "lynch", which is a VERB ... a word which describes an action

I lynch
You lynch
He, she, it lynches

And a PHRASE, which is "lynch mob".

Just because "lynch mob" has a slightly broader meaning than "lynch" doesn't mean that "lynch mob" transfers its meaning to the word "lynch".

Lynch, the verb, has only ONE MEANING.

If you can find a dictionary somewhere which gives the verb "lynch" a different current meaning, feel free to post it. In fact, I encourage you to!

ETA: Yanno, rappy, I find it kind of sweet that you would actually use an argument that I use here rather frequently, and that argument is "Define your terms". I use it because MOST people have not -- defined their terms, I mean. So when they talk about "freedom" or "god" or "justice" or "rights" or "human life" or any number of emotional topics, I find people getting all worked up over concepts which they feel deeply but can't actually -- yanno-- explain. Clearly, they have deep affiliation with something they don't understand. That response is usually the hallmark of childhood training or propaganda.

YOUR problem is, you picked one of the few definitions to discuss in which the meaning is extremely pellucidly clear. May I suggest that BEFORE you hang your argument on a definition, that you look at a dictionary first?

And indeed, until you manage to demonstrate that the word "lynch" has ANY OTHER meaning that that determined by the major dictionaries, I call this particular discussion closed, and encourage discussion of more relevant topics.

Again, you have failed to recognize your own devices.
Libtard illiterate D.C Councilwomen have redefined the word niggardly as an offensive racist slur, and the Libtard masses (Democrats) have supported the move. (they fired the Budget specialist who used the term)
President Bobo has explained the word "thug" is now exclusively applied to blacks, and is now a racist slur.

Apparently you HAVE misunderstood these words, because they have been redefined by your lords and masters, and no longer reflect their true meaning - which is the argument you are attempting to apply. Only those of us in the real world continue to use the actual meanings of these words, which you oppose.

JSF - the D.C councilwoman's idiocy reminded me of...

Dallas County officials spar over ‘black hole’ comment

Quote:

A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon.

County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.

Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections “has become a black hole” because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.

Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud “Excuse me!” He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a “white hole.”

That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.

Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster’s, is perhaps “the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape.”

Other county officials quickly interceded to break it up and get the meeting back on track. TV news cameras were rolling, after all.

Well, it seems , according to Sniggy and 1kiki, that the meaning of the word has evolved, so we can no longer consider the ORIGINAL definition.

Wait, even after he himself used that word ?

And I could have sworn Joss used that word in Age of Ultron, to refer to a WHITE criminal. Albeit, he was in Africa...

Yes, more of the same. Can we blame it on that racist John Wheeler from 1964? But in 1964 black was not a racial term!!!

Shall I assume your thug reference was sarcasm?

What?

First of all, what is a "device"? Makes no sense in the context as you used it.

Secondly... you claim these "devices" (whatever they are) are mine. Is that because you presume that anyone who isn't a rightwing idiot must be a liberal?

Thirdly, you seem to think this has happened previously. Well I don't remember it happening at all. If fact, I'm not sure what "it" is. So please explain. if you can.

Originally from the Thuggee religious tribe of nomadic assassins. Their members were Thugs, supposedly eradicated before 1900. Being Indian, or roaming India, they were unlikely white.
