Jerusalem axe attack: Briton among four killed
One Briton and three Americans killed when two Palestinians attacked Jewish worshippers with axes in a Jerusalem synagogue.
One of the four men who were axed to death inside a Jerusalem synagogue on Tuesday was a British citizen, the Foreign Office has confirmed.
The man, who has been named as Avraham Shmuel Goldberg, came from Golders Green in north London. He died when two Palestinians armed with axes and a handgun burst inside a synagogue in the Har Nof area of West Jerusalem. They set upon the worshippers, hacking four to death and wounding another eight before being shot dead by police.
All four of the dead held foreign passports. Goldberg, a rabbi who was killed at the age of 68, is believed to have worked as a publisher in London before emigrating to Israel in the early 1990s. He is understood to leave a wife and six children along with grandchildren.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware of the death of a dual British-Israeli national in Jerusalem." However, the Foreign Office declined to confirm the identity of the victim or disclose any further details.
David Osborne, a friend of Goldberg, told Jewish News: “He was the most wonderful person you could meet, a pillar of the community."

Hostages held in Sydney cafe, forced to hold Islamic flag in window
Dozens of hostages were trapped inside a central Sydney cafe on Monday, with local television showing some being forced to hold up a black flag with white Arabic writing in the window, raising fears of an attack linked to Islamic militants.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who has warned of militant plans to attack Australian targets, said he was convening a meeting of the cabinet's national security committee for a briefing on the hostage situation at the Lindt Cafe in the country's commercial capital.
"Police are dealing with an armed incident and specialist officers are attempting to make contact (with) those inside a cafe," New South Wales Police said in a statement.
Australia, which is backing the United States and its escalating action against Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, is on high alert for attacks by radicalised Muslims or by home-grown fighters returning from the conflict in the Middle East.

Checked in w/ TuneIn radio and 2GB Sydney, and it's gripping live coverage. The host. Chris Smith' has been on the phone w/ folks inside the cafe, and it sounds like there are some who need medical attention, but aren't being released by the Muslim Terrorists.
Sounds like the whole country has come to a stop, from the way Chris is talking ... thoughts and sympathies for the Aussies and their dealings w/ such low life scum.

Er, no business as usual. Sydney CBD is not the whole of Australia.
