working on a fanfic for Book's departure at Haven, writing little farewell scenes, when it occurred to me: I was thinking of a scene between Book and Inara. It it established anywhere which one left first? In my mind, she's still there when Book leaves, but she was going to leave after Heart of Gold, and The Shepard hadn't said anything about leaving.

If I remember rightly,Inara left first.At least that's what I recall from "Those Left Behind".Have to dig it out to be sure though.

I looked... Inara leaves first, Book announces his intention to leave. We never get the story behind Why he chooses Haven. That would be a good fic to write.

My 2 cents worth on that is in my version of Book's Story. Kinda a throw-away point, as I had other interests. Sadly, 'Nara leaving first shoots a hole in my planned second part of that.

Book left after Inara, stated in either Those Left Behind or the novelization of Serenity.
Something in TLB upset Book, and was the catalyst for him deciding to leave.
Not likely that he would start hanging out with the whores at the Training House, so the next stop is more likely.

Haven is only a few hours away from Training House, and likely after dropping off Inara, Serenity's next stop may have been at the mining colony at Haven.

I never conjured whether Mal made a special extra stop just because Book wanted off, or if he just had an errand only a couple hours away from Training House.
