not sure how reliable this is, but on the IMDB website, this story was posted:

Sarah Michelle Gellar has refused to rule out reprising her role as vampire slayer Buffy Summers in a big screen adaptation of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, as long as the script is good. The actress, married to Freddie Prinze Jr., said goodbye to her Buffy character last year after seven years, and although she was happy with the series ending, she does believe there is scope for a movie version. She says, "Clearly, you're going to disappoint people. I mean, I was very happy with the finale, but I still believe that it should have been two hours. I believe there wasn't enough Xander (Nicholas Brendon's character). I believe that certain things get left out, and when you make a film you're setting yourself up to disappoint people. I say that now, and in a year someone could send me the script and I could think it's great and we could be at the junket a-year-and-a-half from now. But I will say that I have a lot of hesitations about it and it is not something I particularly want to do at this time." Before Gellar landed the role of Buffy, Kristy Swanson played the sexy assassin of the undead in the 1992 film Buffy The Vampire Slayer opposite Luke Perry.

i was under the impression that she did not want to do any movies. am i remembering incorrectly? was it just david boreanaz that was against any movies for angel?

My understanding was that at the moment Joss is only thinking of making made-for-TV movies of the Buffyverse, and neither SMG or DB are interested in doing those (but ASH, JM, and many others are...so Joss is confident that those made for TV movies will happen).

I think that in the above interview SMG is hoping that at some point Joss will make a film of the Buffyverse for release in theaters...and THAT is what she would be open to doing....

I understood that DB would also love to play Angel again but only if it was on the big screen.

Of course I could be wrong...but that is what I've gathered.

i definitely would not mind seeing a theatrical release for angel. that would be pretty neat.

I think you've got it exactly right. Neither Sarah nor David want to do TV movies, but they are both open to doing a big screen version, as long as the script is good. I think Sarah has some additional hesitation because the first "Buffy" movie was so bad.

You know? This is the attitude I really resent.
It is so insulting to Joss (IMO)
If Joss is involved then OF COURSE the script will be brilliant,
and the idiots who made the 'Buffy' movie threw out most of his script and allowed the brainless actors to ad lib (the director wanted to make a farce so she abandoned the entire premise of Joss's screen play)...so that is a stupid way to judge what a future Buffy movie would or could be.

But regardless, Fox still owns the property and they want to make made-for-TV-movies...
And Mutant Enemy is still alive and well, and I understand THEY want to make-TV-movies...
and I know that a lot of the Buffyverse actors have enough respect for Joss to say 'yes' to any project from him without even seeing a script first.

and okay, I don't mean to sound so angry...fact is I think that eventually SMG & DB will learn to value the consistantly brilliant writing of BtVS & Ats, after they've made more cr@ppy forgettable flicks.

Joss said at the Wizard World Comic Con in Chicago that he does want to make a musical, film not stage play,
of course he followed that up by saying he would entitle it:

I agree that, as long as Joss is completely in charge, a new Buffy movie (tv or theatre version) would be 10,000% better than the orginal, which was screwed up beyond recognition.

As an example of how bad movies can be made good, look at the "Batman" movies. The campy Adam West version in the 60's was ridiculous. When Tim Burton's new version came out in the late 80's it completely blew away the original movie. Any new Buffy movie (as long as Joss was in control) would do the same to the 1992 version.

I just saw the original Buffy movie. How bad was that??? It was just painful to watch but I kept trying to just focus on the words. Goes to show that it truely take a team of people to get it right.
