Guardians is getting positive early reviews

Finally managed to see it.
Enjoyed it far more than I expected to, and I DID expect to enjoy it.

Once upon a time I saw the best SciFi work with the introductory episode featuring the wonderful Gregg Henry as a Sheriff, plus some Nathan guy. And also one time when seeing a James Gunn flick with Gregg Henry as a foul-mouthed Mayor, plus some Nathan guy. Again an opening scene with Gregg Henry, and a warm fuzzy feeling settles me in for the ride.

I got an often repeated sense of dramatic freedom or non-tension which seems very rare in films for a long time now. GCI was great, didn't notice it and Groot seemed to be seamless.
Not as good as Edge of Tomorrow, IMO - but far better than Transformers this year. I can't place it above Galaxy Quest, but it shares similar vibe with the script, cadence, character interplay and also my suspension of disbelief was gone soon after the opening Earth scene.

I may see it again when it hits the budget cinema ($1.50 around here).

Had just watched Chris Pratt again as Hattieburg (firstbaseman) in Money Ball the other day.

I was really assuming that Starlord would eventually beat Groot to the punch with "I am Groot" but that never happened. Maybe they were dangling a red herring, I bit.

I did not place Josh Brolin or Seth Green.

Upcoming Elementary season opener features Ophelia Lovibond, who played Carina in Guardians.
I recall watching for her in the credit role, but now it's been a while and I forget what her part was.
Anybody remember who the character Carina was in GotG?

I can't remember. I've only seen Guardians once. According to IMDb the character of Carina has also appeared in Thor: The Dark World and the animated Avengers show. She could have been one of Ronan's minions.

OK, that sounds right. Did this follow Thor: Dark World you think?
She was the first one of his servants, right? Kinda shackled or something? And then at the end she either got away or died, then another servant was selected? I think that was before the coda, or was the coda where that interplay was revealed? I forgot so much since the last viewing.

Thanks so much for helping to jog my memory. Anything else juicy you can remember about Carina/Collector/other servants?

She does look kind of kick-butt in the new Elementary episode.
