Guardians is getting positive early reviews

It really lives up to all the hype. Got two hours of what I expected, non-stop action and humor. Enjoyed it more than the Avengers (and pretty much everything else in the past nine years). A lot of people think Groot stole the show, but I gotta go with Rocket myself.

Yep. None of the character in the movie team were originally on the comic team (the original line-up included Yondu, and was led by the Russian Cosmonaut dog).
Marvel has a "story development team" which combs through their backlog of material, and pitches new takes that could lead to film (they started this years ago, before the Disney buy-out). That's how this version of Guardians started, and the women who did that research is credited as co-writer (though apparently not much of the script she wrote was used).

You missed Nostril Guy?? He was 8 feet tall, blue, and literally the only guy in the whole movie that had a scene about a tree jamming its roots up his nostrils while a Raccoon exclaims "this is our booty."

The brilliant Kelly Sue DeConnick has written the Air force pilot-turned-superhero Danvers into a badass (yet imperfect) leader of the Avengers and a feminist icon. DeConnick was there when Carol changed her superhero name to Captain, and traded in her skimpy outfit for a more modest captain's uniform. She also packs the same kind of punch (thanks to photon beams, super strength, superhuman durability, and flight at the speed of sound) as heavy hitters like Captain America and Iron Man.
