Not as cheesy as Galaxy Quest, but I have heard some compare it to that.

I was hugely looking forward to this too, which is maybe why I felt a little let down. Expectations too high. I wanted another avengers, which I loved. Saw that one three times in Times Square so I could walk back to grand central and check out the buildings that got trashed in the final battle. :)

I'm reconsidering that maybe I ought to see GotG again to see if I'm being unfair. Sure it was all over the place, but really funny and the lead guy was quite good. Yay for having an unknown (to me) take the lead so I don't know what to expect of him. Dave Boutista was also really good. I liked his few perfectly delivered lines in last summer's Roddick. And damn Zoe Saldana! She just gets better with every movie.

Yeah, I think I need to see it again. Also want to pick up the avengers tie ins. I caught a few, but I bet there were more. I won't say anything about them now. I'll wait another week before I go all out with spoilers. :)

Oh, one more thing: the after credits bonus scene was just weird, but falls right in line with the theme of the movie. Goofy silliness! Hilarious actually, for us children of the 80s.

Hey M4P,

Truth be told I've been more than a little giddy to see this movie (like a kid on Christmas morning), so I've been carefully avoiding seeing any more previews or film clips. Plus, I'm trying not to get too excited for precisely that reason - looking to avoid a big letdown.

I've read a handful of reviews (I was careful not to read the spoilery parts) just so that I can have that "fresh" out-of-the-box experience. I went together with my son and his friends to see Spiderman and we had a blast catching all of the horribleness of that fiasco (plus dissing all of the cringe-inducing facial expressions of one Denis Leary); that I want to go, once again, with them cause it should be loads of fun.

We will, most likely, go see it in a Secaucus Movieplex (as we did with Spiderman). So yes, I'm excited but, trying to put a lid on it. Did I mention I love sci-fi (since I first saw the strings pulling the spaceship across my TV screen while watching Flash Gordon). Yes, I'm that old - but so young at heart.

Avengers came from a totally different sexier point. You had several already established "heroes" that were supposed to give you a hard-on every time your pretty little pony came on-screen. Guardians is a much grittier(did someone say ANTI-HEROES??), out in left field kinda play- which makes some people wanna look away or take a step back from the chaos- but the MOMENTS were still there and they played out every bit as poignant as anything in Avengers did. We all went away a wee bit misty eyed and felt that we had gotten our moneys worth. It was well directed, the characters were relatable, lots of great one liners, I can't recall the CGI getting in the way of the story at any point, and it had a point- WHAT MORE DO YA WANT OUT OF A MOVIE?? I think we will see it again....

The only problem I had was with the course language and awkwardness of the key moment of the movie.
"I may be an a-hole, but I'm not a TOTAL dick"

I mean, we'll TRY not to be vulgar, but not really? I just think there has to be better descriptors for "not a genocidal maniac" than DICK...
And yeah, I do know the whole saying about dicks, so I know why he did it, I just wouldn't have gone with that phrase myself. Do you really wanna be known for that one-liner for all eternity? Ick.

Oh, and I think Nathan was the blue guy getting his nostrils cleaned in the prison?? At least the credits listed him as "Monstrous Inmate" so I dunno...

I had a very convenient 3 hour gap open up in my day, and a perfectly timed showing to catch. So I saw it again.

I stick with the call that this movie is messy, in that it goes way out of the usual bounds of material that can be clearly packaged and sold. But I take back any feelings of disappointment. On second viewing, going in without my previous expectations, I can only say that this movie is brilliant. Ok, it's goofy, it likely won't please the reality drama loving critics of the academy, etc, but I don't care. I fricking love it lol!

Visually - perfection. You're right wish, there's not a moment that the CGI is too much, though it is clearly CGI head to toe. I think it's the best looking movie I've ever seen. Tie in here to my previous thoughts - the look is messy, as is all the silly sci-fi language. But I think that's the best compliment to give CGI: it looks messy in the way that real life is. Every shot had incredible detail behind it. And there was so much weird story handed out. I never read the comics; it overwhelmed me on first viewing. Second time around I can absorb it, and look forward to all the obvious and less obvious places this story will go. Damn straight they ok'd the sequel already!

I will say nothing else until SGG sees it, to avoid spoiling.

Except the language: clearly I am one who thinks too much, but the sentence wish brings up made me think this: Quill suggested that an asshole is something bad, but a 100% dick is so much worse... Not what I expect of a manliness dominated culture. Is this the effect of the gays? ;).

One more: I looked for Nathan in every prisoner. I looked real hard at the nostril guy. Couldn't see it with all the CGI, didn't hear it in the synthed voice, but that seems the likeliest one. I certainly didn't see or hear him anywhere else. Hard call.

Supposedly "Guardians" weren't packaged together as a team until 2008, which coincidentally is when Iron Man came out. Boy, Disney sure got long term with this scheme, didn't they? Wonder who put this whole shebang together for them...
