You are correct Australia is working hard to search.
However, since early on, the Maylasian government has been insisting the plane was somewhere not at an airport - without any evidence or proof. Repeatedly disproven each time they made a claim of location, made no difference - like the diversion dance spouted by Clinton and Obama spincrafters, on to the next lie.
I was trying to make the point that there is no need to think they are suddenly truthful or competent when they have not been to this point. Sorry I wasn't clear.

However it happened, whether by design or freakish accident, I think the fate of the airliner may have been similar to that which took out the plane carrying Payne Stewart. Loss of cabin pressure, oxygen deprivation of crew and passengers, disorientation, and then death, followed by several hours of auto pilot flight, until the craft ran out of fuel.

^^
I agree. That seems the most likely explanation.
If other experts agree with the Inmarsat data & analysis,
won't it rule out other hopes and fears?

If the plane is not found, conspiracy theories will last for years.

I thought the news today reported that they found no evidence of the plane in the place they've been searching for the past month.
Do we really believe their claims that it crashed somewhere, someplace, but we'll never have any evidence?

Those 4 pings they were SURE they had heard ? Weren't from the plane. Likely, they now say, it was just noise from their own ships.

Gorrammit !

How hard is it to go the manufacturers of the boxes, get them to tell you what the beacon sounds like , and then go freaking find it ?

( Also, as a side bar - Recently there's been a scare by the CDC that the disease MERS ( Middle East Respiratory Syndrome ) might have spread to the states, and then infected others who were in proximity to the original sick person. Turns, out, it isn't MERS. False alarm.

So much for the OFFICIAL notice.

I believe Malaysian officials are in way over their head. This sort of thing is beynond them, and the usual govt lies so the people will just stop bothering them routnine isn't working out too well.

When you start w/ that level of incompetence and deception, what follows is generally an ever growing cluster frak.

UNC math professors apply research to Flight 370
http://www.dailytarheel.com/article/2014/06/unc-math-professors-apply-
research-to-flight-370

"Professor Roberto Camassa and mathematics department chairman Rich McLaughlin
said the issue is a phenomenon called cloaking, which occurs in the transitions be-
tween layers of water in the ocean.

“Lakes, oceans, even the atmosphere is stratified,” McLaughlin said. “It’s built of
layers of fluid. In the ocean, you have dense water that sits below less dense water.”

"In April, McLaughlin and Camassa released a video modeling how objects can disappear
within the transitional layer."

rash-skeptic-ceo-offers-shocking-theory

"The latest official news update suggests Flight 370 made a left turn before
spiraling into the Indian Ocean. However, one airline CEO is not convinced.
Emirates Airlines' Sir Tim Clarke stops short in alleging a cover up in the
planes disappearance, and offers this shocking theory: Malaysia Flight MH370
was not on autopilot and was likely under control of the pilot until the very end."
