Bush's mystery bulge
The rumor is flying around the globe. Was the president wired during the first debate?

"Was President Bush literally channeling Karl Rove in his first debate with John Kerry? That's the latest rumor flooding the Internet, unleashed last week in the wake of an image caught by a television camera during the Miami debate. The image shows a large solid object between Bush's shoulder blades as he leans over the lectern and faces moderator Jim Lehrer.

The president is not known to wear a back brace, and it's safe to say he wasn't packing. So was the bulge under his well-tailored jacket a hidden receiver, picking up transmissions from someone offstage feeding the president answers through a hidden earpiece? Did the device explain why the normally ramrod-straight president seemed hunched over during much of the debate?"

Perhaps it is an emergency measure, a truth device.....

If Bush starts to accidently tell the truth a moderate electrical shock stops him from spilling the beans concerning the real intentions of US foreign policy.

Would have been cool if it had of had the opposite effect

That's just the puppeteer's hand and arm.

I'll bet both he and Cheney were wired. Cheney seemed to pull a lot of numbers out of his ass during his debate with Edwards.

If Bush was wired, though, it didn't work too well. All he said were the same tired phrases over and over again. It will be interesting to see what happens tonight ...

... that explains why, after a concise question from Jim Lehrer, Bush suddenly broke into: "Car 54! Car54! Converge on the crack house at Jane and Finch!"

I don't buy it. At least not for the first debate. He just performed too poorly. It was clear to me that he was running out of steam and falling back on the same lines. I think we would have seen a much better performance if he was being told what to say. And there seems to be a question about the veracity of that 'bulge' picture (see following link).

As far as Bush's "Let me finish" line that people are using as evidence that he was getting fed answers, I think he just fell back on a familiar behavior pattern.

But has he ever worn a wire before? That's a different matter. There have been rumors about microphones picking up a voice speaking the lines before Bush says them.

Is it me, or when they compare pictures, are they not looking at the same moment in time at the debate film at all?

Either way... Meh. It wouldn't suprise me if it was a wire - more to coach and help then to feed W line by line would be my assumption - but it'd only be amusing, and not much else.
