I thought it was good too. Everyone did a pretty good job, except for Natalie, who seemed to be phoning in her part. I had read rumors she tried to get out of her contract for this one. Hopkins and Hemsworth were great, but once again Tom Hiddleston stole the show.

However, the motivations of the villains was suspect. What's in it for them if everything is destroyed? I suppose something had to remain or else they would have nothing and no one to rule over, but the result of what they were trying to do was vague.

Yeah I liked it too. Not enough of Zachary Levi though! Kat Dennings' character was fun Hemsworth and Hiddlestone were great and some humour in there that feels very Joss! I know he did some re-writes and I have my suspicions which scenes were his, but I'd like to know for sure.

All in all another thoroughly entertaining Marvel offering.

Yeah stick around until the very end of the credits and the lights come on.

Natalie Portman was purportedly not happy with the replacement of Patty Jenkins, the director of Monster (2003), who was originally signed on here, and tried to exit the film after Jenkins was replaced but found she could not get out of her contract. Between the two Thor films, she makes surely one of the most boring girlfriends in superherodom – you sit wondering what it is about her that inspires Thor to want to give up an entire multi-dimensional kingdom to be with her. Kat Dennings, cast in a largely throwaway role as Portman’s sidekick, ran rings around her in the first film and effortlessly does the same again here such that you wonder why they didn’t cast her as Jane rather than the detached Portman.

Director Alan Taylor did speak about that, he said that Joss didn't work on any of the comedy, but did do a pass on the more emotional moments. Specifically those between Thor and Jane, and Thor and Loki.

Just got back from seeing it.
I liked it, and agree about Portman's less than stellar performance.
I was kinda hoping they would kill her off.

I am curious how tonight's Agents of SHIELD ties into it, but won't get to see it until tomorrow.

eta:whoops, I thought the tie in ep was going to be this week, but it won't be until the 19th.

There were a few 'large picture' things like that which I just kinda let go, but yeah, I don't see the motivation for some of which goes on in these stories. O.K., now everything is dark. What's the point ? How do you admire stuff you can't see ? How do you control it ?

And I hadn't even noticed that Zach Levi was IN the movie.

( I noticed that Lee Pace will be in Guardians of the Galaxy, along w/ Vin Diesel. AND Karen Gillan! ... ok, I'm getting ahead of myself here )

Hey ! Great catch! It DOES look like used that as a model for the movie.

Also, 'detached' Portman... absolutely. And double on Kat Dennings. Of course, all she DOES in her t.v. show is deliver 1 liners, so as 'side kick', she was well suited for the part. Even so, she brings more to her character than Portman.
