" Shots fired at the US Senate " was how I heard the news first break.

1 injured - as was relayed by Harry Reid, via reporters.

Only, the shots weren't in or on the steps of the Senate or its offices proper.

Apparently, the woman shot didn't have a gun. She DID have a child in her car, however.

I'm sure the holes in the story will be filled in as the days and weeks go by, as to what the hell happened, and why she was shot.

Already they're saying she had a history of " mental issues ".

Please.

As bad as that can be,... really ?

34 year old mother, dental hygienist, and now dead.

I saw the Senate gave 2 standing ovations in appreciation for the Capitol Police, and how they acted. I wonder if that wasn't a bit premature.

Never was a shooter, other than the Capitol police. They first tried to claim the woman had a gun. Now, it appears to not be the case. I wonder if they'll " FIND " a AR-15 in the trunk of her car...

Rep. Sean P. Duffy (R-Wis.) was assaulted on Wednesday night as he was walking to the U.S. Capitol. His camp confirmed today that someone screamed at the congressman and grabbed his arm.

“A random individual, unknown to the congressman, began screaming at him and grabbed his arm,” spokeswoman Cassie Smedile said in a statement to Roll Call on Thursday morning. “Mr. Duffy was unharmed. He reported the incident in compliance with House security procedures.”

Smedile also said that Duffy requested “no further action be taken” and that no additional comment would be issued on the matter. Neither his official Twitter nor Facebook accounts address the incident.

Honestly, I think there would have to be something affecting the mental state of a person to do this kind of thing with her one-year-old in the car.

G - Ms Bachmann & others did NOT use Vets as a prop. She, as a public servant, was there to HELP them get into the WW2 site. And she did, too . That's the sort of nut job we need, not the Sheila Jackson Lees or Nancy Pelosis of the world.

The thing is AR, we don't know exactly what happened to initiate the events that led up to her being surrounded with guns with a 1 year old in the car. There was some tipping point, some first action that caused the confrontation. In my example, if I had escalated the confrontation and told the police officer to "eff off, I'm on public land, I have my rights" how do we know what his next step would have been? Just this week a motorist in NYC was surrounded by motorcyclists causing the car to stop in the middle of the freeway. While surrounded the motorcyclists were threatening and doing damage to the car. The motorist's life was not threatened (imo) - but there was a 2yr old and wife also in the car. The motorist did what the DC women maybe did; he stepped on the gas and ran over a couple of the motorcyclists to get away. A complete freak out, foot down on the accelerator, anywhere but here action.

I get that, but she wasn't surrounded by unidentified violent strangers attacking her car but by police. You'd think trying to deescalate would be the first instinct.

I'm not at all saying she was to blame, at all. I know far too little and if she was unarmed, this surely could (should) have ended differently.

But for that vast majority of people (especially with their baby in the car), even with adrenaline running, her actions would probably not be the ones they would take. Vehemently asserting their unarmed status, the presence of their baby and emerging from the car hands up to prevent further escalation would be. This is why I suspect something substantive affected her state of mind and pushed it beyond rational thought.

Regardless of why she did what she did, her actions justified a lethal response from police. When you use your vehicle as a weapon...you are using a weapon and the police are fully justified in acting to protect their lives and the lives of all the innocent bystanders.

This is not the first car to hit one of those barricades, but it is the first time an incident has escalated beyond normal control. That is a busy area filled with pedestrians and tourists. A high speed police chase is not acceptable. Two police officers were then injured before this went to the lethal stage, I wonder for all the police haters out there, how many police and or civilians are people like this supposed to run down before police can shoot them?

There has been a good bit of criticism of the Capitol Police for their response to the Navy Yard shooting here a few weeks ago, with members of a heavily armed tactical team that responded to radio calls for help claiming they were told to stand down by higher ups, leaving the response to D.C. Metro forces less well armed and armored. Capitol Police officials are supposed to be investigating, but it's kind'a fallen off the radar.

Could be the Capitol Police were a bit keyed up after this.

You just described a photo op, thx.

A photo op is inviting a bunch of folks over to the WH , putting them in white doctor's lab coats, and putting on a show for the media while talking about ObamaCare. Completely self serving and deceptive.

What Michelle and Other Senators did was get members of our greatest generation into the WW2 Memorial, which was funded largely ( if not entirely ) by private funding. Had they not gone out there to help our Vets, there'd be no cameras there, no images of Vets having to basically break into an open air memorial , that's NEVER BEEN CLOSED before Obama directed it to be.
