As to Rap, the DAY he can resist dogging MY posts with nasty comments, and responding nastily to any and every post by anyone voicing anything from the left, he might have something to complain about. Until then, ![]()

This just in--- well, at least, I just saw it.
Pat Buchanan defends Obama, sort of...
Quote:
Why would Obama even consider this?
Because he blundered badly. Foolishly, he put his credibility on the line by warning that any Syrian use of chemical weapons would cross a "red line" and be a "game changer" with "enormous consequences."
Not only was this ultimatum unwise, Obama had no authority to issue it. If Syria does not threaten or attack us, Obama would need congressional authorization before he could constitutionally engage in acts of war against Syria. When did he ever receive such authorization?
Moreover, there is no proof Syrian President Bashar Assad ever ordered the use of chemical weapons.
U.S. intelligence agencies maintain that small amounts of the deadly toxin sarin gas were likely used. But if it did happen, we do not know who ordered it.
Syrians officials deny that they ever used chemicals.

Y'all remember Buchanan, don't ya? Nixon's mouthpiece? Ran for Pres a coupla times, couldn't even get nominated by the R's? So bat-shit crazy even the Tea Baggers won't let him in the same room? Farther out there than PN? Wanted to annex Canada? the Ton Cruise of the right-wing?
Come to think of it, if he's sticking up for Obama, maybe Obama is flat out WRONG...

Kerry and McCain should admit much of the Syrian rebels have been taken over by nutty terrorists
Politically insane, Syrian opposition admits a 'few thousand' foreign jihadists in coalition, more 'radical Jihadists' making their way to Syria from France, Britain, Canada and soon to return home with jihad experience and training

How can anything good ever come of this?
Meanwhile you have 1.4 million refugees and many more internally displaced in need of support. 70.000 killed. World heritage sites damaged or destroyed.
You want to do something, but what can you really do that might not make things worse? Well, I guess everyone with fingers in the pie could spontaneously decide to work together to minimize all that civilian suffering but it hasn't happened so far, so...
I'm having a cynical Thursday morning.
Yes, in a nutshell nicely written.
A shame its becoming another partisan football match in the US. This is a horrific civil war which is causing shocking suffering in the region.
The issue is whether intervention would do any good. Past recent examples have demonstrated something of the opposite. Has any good come from the interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan? Would any of us have any idea anyway?

Sen. John McCain, R.-Ariz., faced criticism from his constituents at a town hall meeting in Arizona on Thursday for his support for military intervention in Syria and support for the anti-government rebels, who have a strong element of al-Qaeda and other jihadist groups in their presence.
