Kiki, why bother? But thank you for laying it out.
Who threw the first insult is irrelevant; we're each responsible for our own words. But of course you're right, Byte; a lot of threads are impossible quite quickly now. I'm not getting involved, I just wanted to point out that the "20 weeks", explained perfectly by Kiki, is mostly the EXCUSE for the bill; it's the material intended to do away with ALL availability of abortion in the state which is the intent. That's how it's done.

I use irrelevance and humour to try to defuse these situations, but lately I've been routinely getting ignored whenever I attempt to do so.
At this point I'm not even sure it's an issue of who started it. These threads don't happen in a vacuum, people attack others in a thread based on what was said to them in a previous thread. I think to find who started what I'd have to go back YEARS, and it would still be just as murky as to who got so annoyed first that they started attacking, and whether (deliberately?) causing annoyance can be a form of guilt on the part of the other person.
Mostly I just want people to stop verbally beating the hell out of each other around here. As I said, I think it just makes things worse.
And yes, though I called out the 'wish so-and-so was aborted' comments as particular examples, I am aware that it takes two to escalate a situation.
I see that you're starting to see me as an enemy as well, and there's not much I can do about that. I wish you'd tell us what's up though, like if you posted your own thread airing a list of grievances towards other board members, at least people might start to understand.

Not vicious and pointed enough? How about...
Quote:Just so the effect doesn't get lost, I'm going to turn it around and say that rightwingers should be aborted any time before they learn to walk.
I'm all in favor of late term abortions, the fewer liberals the better.- Whozit
There, how does that feel?
Seems, in the shit-slinging contest:
You started it! Nyah nyah nyah!
If there is one thing our esteemed rightwing friends are capable of, it's dishing it out, and then crying like wusses when it gets returned.
*mutters*
Crybabies!
*walks away*

Still, it's kind of a strange upper boundary if you think about it. It's just one of those bills where yeah, I can get why people don't want it, but some of the parts of the bill aren't all terrible. Maybe. Probably Not? Bleh, politics.
Until you take into account the other burdensome rules which force endless rescheduling of the also mandatory bullshit, specifically DESIGNED to drag out it past that point...
Then the puzzle pieces click, yes ?
Mind you, all this sanctity of life bullshit from a state that as I hear, just executed someone this week even though the case they were initially convicted on was crap, and I've never once yet seen any of that supposed sanctity of life rhetoric apply once the kid pops out so we all know it's bullshit - often as not run out the mouths of the very folks cripping access to contraception and proper education on PURPOSE to create this awful situation to use it for power and politics.
You ask me, new rope would be too good for em, yanno ?
Right now we've branched out at CoTL into cleaning up some more damage caused by these fucks - remember me sayin if there's a hell on earth, it is where unadopted children go ?
Well another problem relative to this, is that the few survivors of our nightmare grade Foster Care System "age-out" when they hit eighteen, and since there's no MONEY in it any more, a substantial amount of Foster so-called-parents send em out the door with boot in arse, usually after mistreating them and CERTAINLY without teaching them any of the necessarily skills to survive on their own, not to mention a lot of them kids got deep seated, untreated problems festering....
And who cleans up that mess, hmm ?
Tenative alliance forged with CH, for the moment, they seem on the level.

Why not ask some of them kids what THEY think of the situation?

Frem's right; if you go into what actually has to happen if a woman feels she cannot bear a child, or if a fetus has an illness which would keep her in poverty the rest of their lives (is Texas one of those states where the doctor doesn't even have to tell her...or is sued if he does?), or if, gawd forbid, she's raped, and all the walls and hurdles they've ALREADY put up in this matter, 20 weeks looks different. It's all a game to them and we've known it for ages; they lost Roe, so they got power in the states and went right on defying the law of the land. Wonder how they'll deal with losing DOMA? Wait for it...
And yes, Execution 500 puts the lie to Perry's "we value all life", even if his low-wage, low-safety-net state and everything else didn't already!

Attempting to equate the unborn with convicted murderers is nothing but a sign that you've already lost the argument.
