Are Firefly Ratings Good Enough For UPN?

And actually it's kinda funny (or not so much) - Fox originally ordered the sitcom Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place but after they aired the premier they decided they didn't want it and another net picked it up ... ABC I think? Then they shortened the name and added Nathan Fillion. Not too awful.
And one of the most famous *shiver* - CBS was the original home of Baywatch.

Firefly is drawing higher numbers than Buffy and Angel. However Fox has higher budget shows and therefore has higher audience expectations.
WB is replacing Birds of Prey with the far superior show, Angel.
Getting Firefly on to another network is plan B. Plan A is convincing Fox to keep it and let it grow into the next X-Files phenom. And plan A is still in effect!

UPN is really not such a safe bet than one might assume as it has ALOT of new show's scheduled next season, and the WB are still slightly perturped at Whedon, and there is only one way I could see UPN picking this up, is if Buffy ends this season.

On the plus side, Firefly costs LESS to make than Buffy and Angel, UPN has only ordered Pilots and have not actually ordered the Season, Firefly has better ratings than most UPN shows, and they are desperate....and I mean desperate for these kinda shows, serious dramas.
UPN is a 50/50 bet, but i could really see Firefly getting picked up by them.

I would think UPN might have interest, as they have a gaping hole in their schedule after BtVS. Firefly is a bit different and doesn't have the exact same audience (I'm sure UPN would rather pick up "Angel") but if BtVS is returning next season in some form or other, I would think it would be a decent fit as a companion show. Or as a companion show for Enterprise, if "Angel" is no longer airing in that timeslot on the WB.

A number of shows have jumped to other networks
Grounded For Life was cancelled from fox, they are airing the rest of their episodes, then its going to the WB
back in the day 21 jumpstreet started on fox then went into syndication
Jag was nbc, now cbs
Baywatch was NBC (im almost postitive!)
Home Improvement was supposed to be on CBS IIRC, but they opted not to take it and ABC cashed in huge

umm.. i know theres others i just cant think of them off the top of my head.
At this point I dont care which network picks up the show, as long as it gets picked up or put into syndication. I mean christ, of Mutant X & Andromeda can get syndication w/ their lame plots & FX then why cant a good show like firefly?! I mean hell, Firefly uses less special FX than either of those shows, but you dont even mind or notice because its so good.

It's actually not as cut and dry as that. FOX is available to far more homes than UPN is and hence will likely have more viewers. Here's a list of what percentage of households in the U.S. get each network as a primary affiliate (that is they follow the national schedule). Secondary affiliates (those that air UPN/WB at odd hours) are not included:
NBC: 103,624,370 households (97.17%)
CBS: 103,421,270 households (96.98%)
ABC: 103,179,600 households (96.75%)
FOX: 102,565,710 households (96.18%)
UPN: 91,689,290 households (85.98%)
WB: 90,282,480 households (84.66%)
PAX: 79,185,730 households (74.25%)

UPN "shares" air space with CBS where I am, so it ends up playing shows like Buffy at 4 pm on Wednesday instead of 8 pm on Tuesday.
I hope they (or whatever other station wants to pick it up) see a good thing and do it justice. It's JOSS afterall--his track record of hits alone should persuade -someone.- Any nibbles from the sci-fi channel?? It might find a nice home port there.

Since Sci-Fi saw fit to axe it's own flagship show Farscape, I doubt they'd be looking to add a more-expensive replacement.
