LOST: wow, another rare TV gem

I have been looking forward to J.J. Abrams' 'Lost' for some time now. The first three seasons of his other show, Alias, have been a great deal of fun for me... granted, a type of fun that does NOT include the deeper heart-tugging moments of a Whedon show but pure fun nonetheless. The Alias characters and plots are outlandish but that is exactly what I tune in to see each week.
J.J. Abrams should be honoured and supported for being the last great TV genius with several shows still on major network TV!
I found 'Lost' to be riveting from frame one. The initial confusion of Dr. Jack as he awakens and finds his way back to the crash site was well performed and the chaos at the crash site itself was impressively well directed and edited. The acting was convincing and the special effects seemless! The wealth of characters and island mysteries will give the writers lots to play with. This show could go so many directions and I find that exciting.
I for one cannot wait until next week to see part two of the 'Lost' pilot. I want to see it now!!
Haken, if you do create a 'Lost' fansite... I'll be there with you, man!
ABC... let this show do its thing please!! Do not executive decision it to death!

The debut was a strong suprise in last night's ratings, I learned this morning. 11.6/19, dominated it's timeslot. Those aren't fringe drama numbers - those are Law & Order and CSI numbers.
I think this one just might stick around.
Hope it stays that high next week...

Also, check Matt Roush (sp?) at TV Guide online. He's usually pretty good at naming the good shows. He loved Angel. Also, aintitcoolnews.com does a lot of previews. They loved Angel a lot.

Ok... I missed the show, however, I have... shhh... downloaded it and am planning on watching it tonight.
I tried to get into 'Alias', but it was too pretty for me. Teeny-bopper super-spy turned assassin?!? What the...? That part I didnt get. At all.
However, that being said, I will give this show a watch if for no other reason than to say this:
AT LEAST IT AIN'T MORE REALITY TV CRAP!!!!
Am I the only one who thinks that the reality thing has gone on too long? Hell, I thought that back with the 2nd season of Real World.
Anyone else here go to work/school only to be bombarded with "Hey, did ya catch the new reality show (insert name here)"? I usually answer with my response of "Nah, I dont go in for reality crap, I got enough of it as it is" they always respond with "Oh, this isnt like a normal reality show, its got (insert freaky trendy twist here)".

Nah. I get the same thing too...usually it has something to do with Survivor, or the Bachelor.
I hope I'm not the only one that, while I usually go to great lengths to avoid reality TV, if it's shoved at me I'll somehow get wrapped up into it? Occasionally Fear Factor has that train-wreck effect on me...you can't not watch it.
Though, I'll admit...Bravo has an occasional amusing show or two. Showbiz Moms & Dads was rather good, and I'm a fan of a certain five gay guys...

As a fan of Alias, I'll have to tune in next week. I was going to tape the 1st half of the pilot for my dad, who saw that it was the top-reviewed non-reality TV, but I forgot
. I'll have to download it or something. Thanks for your thoughts on it, they're helpful.

I thought it was a strong debut: good writing and directing, oh, and really good acting. Gotta agree that opening scene with the post-crash chaos was well done.
I also think there are dozens of stories lurking on the island so I am really looking forward to next week's pilot conclusion.
Only thing I thought was really, really lame were the scenes inland when the trees were being whip-sawed and crushed by The Thing! Reminded me of grade school dramas. Although maybe the studio thought you have to have Big Signs To Indicate Big Scary Things to create drama. Pffft!

I caught the first half of the pilot. If you don't keep in mind it's only half the first episode, it's not really any good (the first hour was just a LOT of establishment without any development... From the preview, I think the second half will have a lot, though).
That being said, I think the show has a lot of potential. At the beginning they did a great job of letting your imagination do the work. I especially liked how, when Jack gets to the beach, the camera pans around... you know you are about to see the plane crash, but it takes a lot longer than you would find on TV. Plus, the engine... I just knew someone was gonna get sucked in, but they teased me as much as they could before it happened.
The /one/ thing I didn't care for was the music when they were in the cockpit.
I have to see part 2 to reserve judgement, but I have high hopes for this show. [Unlike last season, which didn't offer me ANYTHING until Wonderfalls. ]
