The spur of the moment nurse to which you refer is a chacicature. He issupposed to be un-pretty. I am by no means however slamming the show. I was totally into it. I know its not dinos too by the way(something more sinister)as implied by the presence of the orange sucking actor we see so often in X files and the like.

Saw it tonight, and was interested. I have to admit when I saw the engine sitting there running I immediatly thought of Firefly. But when the guy got sucked into the engine I laughed out loud, disturbed my friends I was watching it with a bit. Until I explained why I was laughing, and then they got it as well. Two of them are already converts and I am working on the other two that were there now. :) I hold out hope that they continue to build the characters because if they don't then this show will suck. Without the character creation and growth it will just be another monster flick and will deserve to be canceled.
For those who are curious the guy with orange peel in his mouth, I can't remember his name, but he played on Millenium, he was the contact for the psychic guy at the FBI and his good friend. So he has been around in sci'fi for a while and has some idea of what is expected of him and his character.

I'm totally excited about the show......I found myself holding my breath several times. However, I'm addicted to Alias and totally trust JJ Abrams like I trust Joss. I thought the pilot was amazing and I cant wait to see it next week!!!!!

I thought the show was pretty good. It was one of the few shows in the upcoming season that I actually wanted to see, and so far it looks like it has potential. I don't know WHAT they're going to do with the whole creature thing though. I remember reading somewhere that the writers of the show wouldn't say what it is, but they said what it wasn't, and it's defnitely NOT a dino. But if not....then what is it?
And also, since someone mentioned that Daniel Dae Kim was in, did anyone actually noticed who the pregnant lady was? It was Emilie de Ravin from Roswell. Since I just recently got hooked on that show, I was glad to see her in it.
And like someone else said....what WAS the deal with that damn dog?

and comparing it in any way to anything Joss ever wrote is blasphemy! Joss got more character development in his first issue of Astonishing X-men....
Personally I saw nothing at all in this first episode...I was extremely disappointed (so, for the record...that is one person slamming it!).

i am very excited about this show too...big time. now being totally unfamiliar with the works of Mr. Abrams,i found the show to have much potential,it kinda grabbed you and dug it's claws in and didn't let go until after the credits.(just hoping by week 12 they aren't making coconut radios)
i will however admit at a few points of the show it reminded me of things i'd seen before,the dog that keeps poping up,Watchers,a book by Dean Koontz(super genius dog stuff) of course the required Jurassic Park and CastAway bit's but other than that i enjoyed it,i think Maui guy is up to something,or he's trying to make the best of a really shithouse situation,could go either way.but i do think that there is something in the jungle,sinister?maybe.or it could be any number of the following:
1.Genetically enhanced marooned zoo animals
2.Predator('past the treeees.')
3.the errant search for WMD's
4.natives not so happy this giant metal bird exploded raining people and "brining all sorts a ruccus inna they house."
we shall see.

I agree.
I caught the last half hour...and, well, maybe I missed something remotely good in the first half, but I found nothing there to interest me at all. I found parts somewhat pointless...and, well, nothing really happened. 'Cept their on an island. And keep running from things we can't see. We only know they're even coming, in some way, by the melodramatic music. And the camera jerking, which is enough to drive anyone mad. Oh, and there's a dog.
*shrug* I've never like J.J., though I'll watch the show in full for a few more weeks, to see if he may just have something to fill the time between now and any good mid-season replacements. He is good, and I do watch Alias, but he's not really my style for the long run, and I always have the distinct feeling that he rips off Joss a lot. Least he knows who to steal from...^_^
Anyway, just my opinion.

I liked it. Just like I "liked" The Train Job. It's just a pilot so I'm back next week watching Lost and taping Smallville, which by the way, is finally hitting its stride. Season premiere rocked. It could just be I expect less from Smallville, but I doubt it.
I was excited to see Emilie de Ravin, too. I must say I HAVE NEVER SEEN a heavily pregnant woman in a miniskirt. Just disturbing. And possibly convenient.
There's also that guy from the Matrix, Harold Perrineau. Less recognizable without the dreads.

Way to early to make a call.
A lot of us tuned in because of Firefly connections but I wonder how many watched the show without any biased thoughts.
I liked it, but I must say that there are so many open plot holes to fill I wonder if people will be interested in coming back to see what happens. Was it only one hour? If it was, I would have thought a two hour premier would have added more to the characters.
